History of Champagne Pierre Deville

The history of Champagne Pierre Deville begins in 1963, when Pierre Deville, great-grandfather of Alban Corbeaux, decides to produce his own champagnes outside of the great houses, with an artisanal and family vision. This bold choice marks the beginning of a tradition where each generation brings its own contribution.

In 2000, Christophe and Isabelle Corbeaux take up the torch, revitalizing the estate and continuing the work begun by Pierre Deville. In 2017, their son Alban Corbeaux, a passionate young oenologist trained in Burgundy, returns to the estate with innovative ideas. Convinced by organic and biodynamic practices, he begins to convert the parcels toward farming that is more respectful of the ecosystem. Alban, a rising figure of the new generation of Champagne winemakers, today crafts champagnes that are both pure and expressive, reflecting a unique terroir.

Terroirs and Vineyards of Champagne Pierre Deville

Champagne Pierre Deville extends over 5 hectares, of which 4 are located in Verzy, and 1 hectare in Essoyes. Verzy, recognized for its Grand Cru terroir, is famous for its limestone soils and its ideal climate for Pinot Noir, the emblematic grape variety of the Montagne de Reims. The estate benefits from a well-balanced grape variety composition with approximately 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay, offering wines with deep aromas and well-controlled acidity.

Alban Corbeaux works each parcel with particular attention, seeking to preserve the biodiversity of the soil and the vine. Since 2016, he has progressively adopted biodynamic practices, favoring the natural balance of the terroir and reducing the chemical footprint to the strict minimum. The old vines from selected lieu-dits give the champagnes a remarkable structure and aromatic intensity, particularly in his Copin cuvées.

Vinifications at Champagne Pierre Deville

In the cellar, Alban Corbeaux applies natural winemaking methods, aiming to best express the identity of each parcel. Fermentations are carried out with indigenous yeasts, guaranteeing an authentic expression of the Verzy terroir. The use of sulfur is strictly limited, and the champagnes are lightly dosed, or even non-dosed, to preserve exceptional purity and vivacity.

The vinification of Pierre Deville champagnes is carried out in stainless steel tanks and oak barrels, respecting a meticulous process to avoid any excessive oxidation. Malolactic fermentations are carried out in their entirety, bringing to the wines a silky texture and great aromatic depth. This meticulous work translates in each vintage into champagnes of incomparable precision and freshness, designed to enhance gastronomic dishes.

The cuvées of Champagne Pierre Deville

Pierre Deville champagnes offer a range of cuvées marked by finesse and complexity, all from the Grand Cru parcels of Verzy. Alban Corbeaux offers champagnes crafted from unique vintages and old vines, with particular care for each cuvée:

Copin Blanc de Blancs

A 100% Chardonnay champagne, from old vines in Verzy. This cuvée is an ode to freshness and elegance, with subtle aromas of white flowers and white-fleshed fruits. Its low sulfur content and absence of dosage make it a pure and crystalline champagne, perfect to accompany seafood or delicate dishes.

Copin Blanc de Noirs 

A tribute to Pinot Noir, the flagship grape variety of the Montagne de Reims. This cuvée is rich in aromas of red fruits and spices, with an imposing structure and exceptional length on the palate. Ideal for lovers of characterful champagnes, it reveals the power and depth of Pinot Noir from Verzy.

Each year, Alban selects the best parcels to produce vintage champagnes, which reflect the quality of the terroir and the influence of the climate on each harvest. Lightly dosed, these champagnes are marked by lively acidity and a rich texture, perfect for gastronomy.

Alban Corbeaux also experiments with small productions from lieu-dits, which allow the exploration of the specific characteristics of certain parcels. These rare cuvées, often non-dosed, are produced in limited quantities and are aimed at lovers of exclusive and authentic champagnes.
