History of Domaine Jessica Litaud

Jessica Litaud, from a lineage of Burgundian winemakers, forged her path through an initiatory journey across more than ten countries over five years. Returning in 2018 to her native village of Vergisson, at the foot of the majestic Roche de Solutré, she decided to take over part of the family estate. Voluntarily limiting her vineyard to 2.1 hectares (although some sources mention 5 hectares including leased parcels), Jessica chooses to work alone to master every step, from vineyard to cellar. Trained by two emblematic figures, Jean-Marie Guffens and Jean-François Ganevat, she acquired unique expertise, blending Burgundian rigor with Jura audacity. This know-how, combined with her attachment to the terroir, makes her a rising star, whose wines, produced in limited quantities, are already highly sought after by wine enthusiasts.

Terroirs and Vineyards of Domaine Jessica Litaud

Domaine Jessica Litaud spans prestigious parcels in the Mâconnais, located in the Mâcon-Vergisson, Saint-Véran and Pouilly-Fuissé appellations, including recently classified 1ers Crus. The vines, cultivated using organic farming (certification expected for the 2024 vintage) and partially biodynamically, benefit from exceptional terroirs, marked by limestone soils and a unique microclimate in the shadow of the Roche de Vergisson. Among the emblematic parcels are:

Mâcon-Vergisson "La Roche" (0.48 ha, 50-year-old vines): a terroir that imparts power and minerality.

Saint-Véran "Les Pommards" (0.25 ha, 25-year-old vines): fresh and fruity wines, full of vivacity.

The vines are carefully tended, without chemicals, using techniques such as mechanical weeding, manual hoeing and Guyot-Poussard pruning to preserve the health of the vines. The harvests, carried out by hand in small 7 to 15 kg crates, guarantee grapes of optimal quality.

Winemaking at Domaine Jessica Litaud

Jessica Litaud adopts a natural and artisanal approach in the cellar, favoring winemaking without inputs, except for a low dose of SO2 at bottling to ensure optimal preservation. The grapes, harvested manually, are cooled to 4°C for at least 12 hours before gentle pressing using the Champagne method. This step allows for short settling, preserving the aromas and substance of the grapes. The spontaneous fermentations take place in used oak barrels (no new barrels), followed by aging of 10 to 11 months for most cuvées, and up to 22 months for certain 1ers Crus. By respecting lunar cycles, Jessica adds a biodynamic touch to her winemaking, reinforcing the authentic expression of the terroir in each bottle.
