Estate History

Clos des Grillons was born from the passion of Nicolas Renaud, a former history teacher who became a winemaker. After teaching for several years, he decided to dedicate himself to his love of wine and settled in Rochefort-du-Gard, near Tavel. Trained alongside great winemakers, he acquired a fine understanding of the vineyard and chose a natural and minimally interventionist approach. From the beginning, he committed to a cultivation respectful of life, banning chemical inputs and emphasizing the natural balance of the vine. Today, his work is recognized for its authenticity and ability to sublimate the grape varieties of the southern Rhône.

Terroir and Vines

Clos des Grillons extends over a mosaic of soils that shape the diversity and complexity of its wines. Between rolled pebbles, red clays and limestone, each plot offers ideal conditions to reveal the unique character of indigenous grape varieties. Benefiting from a Mediterranean climate, the vines enjoy sunny days and cooler nights, favoring slow and balanced ripening of the grapes. Conducted in organic farming, the vineyard is worked with care, favoring gentle methods such as grassing and biodynamic preparations to maintain soil fertility and preserve biodiversity.

Vinification

In the Clos des Grillons cellar, vinification follows a minimally interventionist approach to preserve the purest expression of the grape and terroir. Harvests are manual, allowing rigorous selection of bunches. Fermentation occurs naturally, thanks to indigenous yeasts, and extractions are gentle to preserve finesse and balance. Aging takes place in concrete tanks, large barrels or amphorae, depending on the needs of each cuvée, allowing the refinement of textures and bringing beautiful depth to the wines. Sulfur is used sparingly, guaranteeing digestible, luminous wines full of energy.

Estate Cuvées

Clos des Grillons offers a range of singular wines, highlighting the emblematic grape varieties of the southern Rhône:

Les Grillons: An original cuvée that blends white and red grape varieties vinified through maceration. This wine with vibrant aromas of red fruits and citrus offers a silky texture and great freshness.

Champs de Grillons: An intense and gourmet red, dominated by Grenache and Carignan, revealing notes of sweet spices, garrigue and black cherry. An elegant and generous expression of the terroir.

Un Coup de Dés: A more mineral and profound cuvée, perfect for discovering the subtlety and complexity of the estate's limestone soils.
