The history of Domaine Remoriquet is deeply rooted in the great Burgundian winemaking tradition. The Remoriquet family was already cultivating vines for the Cistercian monks of the Abbey of Cîteaux, the historic founders of Burgundy's great vineyards, making this estate one of the oldest winemaking lineages in Nuits-Saint-Georges. Located at 25 rue de Charmois, in the very heart of the village, the domaine was patiently built up over generations through successive acquisitions and inheritances.

In 1979, Gilles Remoriquet, Henri's son, took over the reins of the family estate after studying oenology in Dijon. Under his leadership, the property took on a new qualitative dimension while preserving the family's discreet spirit. Today, the label continues to honour the joint work of father and son under the name "Henri et Gilles Remoriquet". Known for their great humility and exacting standards, the Remoriquet family ranks among the most highly regarded names for lovers of authentic, traditional Nuits-Saint-Georges.

Terroirs and Vines of Domaine Henri et Gilles Remoriquet

The vineyard of Domaine Remoriquet extends over approximately 10 hectares in the heart of the Côte de Nuits, principally within the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation, complemented by plots in Vosne-Romanée and the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits. The diversity of the climats farmed is remarkable, including several emblematic Premier Crus: Les Bousselots, Les Damodes, La Rue de Chaux and Les Saint-Georges in Nuits, as well as the prestigious Au Dessus des Malconsorts in Vosne-Romanée, a direct neighbour of the Aux Malconsorts climat.

The soils, combining Bajocian limestone, clay marls and slope silts, vary from plot to plot and give each cuvée a unique signature: tannic depth and dense texture for the southern Nuits climats, aromatic finesse and silkiness for the northern climats close to Vosne-Romanée. The reigning grape variety is Pinot Noir, complemented by a small proportion of Chardonnay for the Hautes-Côtes whites. Some vines are over 50 years old, feeding into the Vieilles Vignes cuvée, and the entire vineyard is cultivated in keeping with Burgundian traditions: regular ploughing, short pruning, limited yields and attentive observation of each plot.

Winemaking at Domaine Henri et Gilles Remoriquet

In the cellar, Gilles Remoriquet practises a resolutely classic winemaking approach, faithful to the most authentic Burgundian traditions. The harvests are entirely manual, followed by rigorous sorting at the winery. Depending on the cuvée and the vintage, destemming may be total or partial: the Grappes Entières cuvée, for example, incorporates the stems in the winemaking to gain in aromatic complexity and freshness. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentations are conducted using the indigenous yeasts naturally present on the berries, ensuring a faithful expression of the terroir.

Maceration periods extend over two to three weeks, with gentle extraction (measured punch-downs and limited pump-overs) in order to preserve the aromatic finesse of the Pinot Noir while revealing the tannic structure characteristic of Nuits terroirs. Ageing takes place in oak barrels for 12 to 18 months depending on the cuvée hierarchy, with a deliberately measured use of new wood so as never to mask the signature of the individual climats. The wines are then bottled with particular care, yielding Nuits-Saint-Georges wines that require time in the cellar to reveal their full complexity.

The Cuvées of Domaine Henri et Gilles Remoriquet

The Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits Rouge is the entry-level wine of the domaine, crafted from Pinot Noir grown on the heights of the Côte de Nuits. Fruity, generous, marked by fresh red fruits and a fine spicy structure, it is a balanced wine enjoyable in its youth.

The Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits Blanc, rarer in style, is crafted from Chardonnay grown in the Hautes-Côtes. A brilliant straw-yellow robe, a nose of almond, hazelnut, honey and honeysuckle, a fresh and elegant palate with a fine balance between freshness and body, and a distinctly chalky finish. A refined cuvée for lovers of characterful whites.

The Coteaux Bourguignons, an appellation created in 2011, offers a generous and accessible Pinot Noir, fruity and refreshing, a perfect companion for everyday dining.

The Nuits-Saint-Georges Village embodies the classic signature of the domaine, a faithful expression of the appellation. Deep robe, nose of black cherry, plum and spices, a structured palate with fine tannins and a full-bodied texture, with a long and persistent finish.

The Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Allots is sourced from a village lieu-dit located in the northern part of the appellation, near Vosne-Romanée. A refined and aromatic cuvée, marked by fresh red fruits and an elegant structure, it embodies the more aerial side of Nuits.

The Nuits-Saint-Georges Vieilles Vignes, sourced from vines over 50 years old, embodies the density and aromatic richness of Burgundy's great Pinot Noirs. A deep, full-bodied cuvée with remarkable aromatic complexity, built for ageing.

The Nuits-Saint-Georges Grappes Entières is an original cuvée crafted by whole-bunch vinification, a technique that incorporates the stems to bring complexity, freshness and aromatic depth. An intense ruby robe, an expressive nose of red fruits (blackcurrant, cherry, almost jammy) lifted by peppery notes, a round, harmonious and powerful palate with supple, melted tannins, of rare complexity for a village wine.

The Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru Les Bousselots, located in the northern part of the appellation, delivers a full-bodied and structured Pinot Noir, marked by red fruits, soft spices and a fine mineral structure. A superb expression of the climat, requiring a few years of cellaring to reveal its full complexity.

The Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru Les Damodes, a climat neighbouring Vosne-Romanée, captivates with its notes of dark fruits, soft spices and violet, accompanied by a noble tannic structure. A supple and velvety wine with fine grain, marked by an aromatic signature evoking the finesse of the Vosne climats.

The Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru Rue de Chaux is a central cuvée of the domaine, with a full-bodied and complex palate. Rich aromatics blending creamy red fruits, spices and subtle vegetal touches, a dense and structured palate, ideal after several years of cellaring.

The Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru Les Saint-Georges is one of the most prestigious Premier Crus of the appellation, a historic plot that gave its name to the village. A deep, thoroughbred wine with a powerful tannic structure and aromas of dark fruits, spices, and undergrowth, with very long ageing potential.

The Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru Au Dessus des Malconsorts is the flagship and iconic cuvée of Domaine Remoriquet, sourced from an exceptional plot situated just above the Aux Malconsorts climat (itself adjacent to La Tâche). A Pinot Noir of remarkable finesse, endowed with a fruity nose "in weightlessness" characteristic of the great Vosne wines, a silky, deep palate with a noble mineral structure and an elegant finish. A rare and sought-after signature for discerning enthusiasts.
