TASTING NOTES

Bouchard Père & Fils Corton Charlemagne 2009 Fairly pale yellow colour, not very evolved. The nose expresses itself discreetly on citrus, white fruits and lightly toasted notes. The palate is fresh and broad with a slightly alcoholic finish. The length is remarkable. A wine in the making that confirms the patience one must have with Corton Charlemagne wines as a general rule.

Joseph Drouhin Batard Montrachet 2008 Golden yellow colour. Generous nose of yellow fruits, apricot, candied citrus, honey and a touch of iodine. The palate is superbly balanced. Its very sustained acidity perfectly counterbalances the great breadth of this wine with its seemingly endless length.

Clos des Lambrays 2013 Medium-intensity colour with still slightly purple hues. The nose of small red fruits and flowers captivates more by its complexity than by its still discreet intensity. The palate, finely oaked, fresh and taut, reveals tannins that are fairly ripe for the vintage. The concentration is medium, but the great liveliness and length of this wine are already beginning to provide much tasting pleasure.

Hubert Lignier Charmes Chambertin 2011 An intense ruby colour. The nose is moderately expressive and rather earthy, but not lacking in fruitiness, with morello cherry or macerated raspberry. The oak is still quite perceptible. The palate is charming and showing promise. The tannins are present but well integrated into a decent concentration. A fine wine in the making.

Hospices de Beaune Corton Cuvée du Docteur Peste 2000 Deep ruby colour with evolved hues. The nose delivers notes of fruit in eau-de-vie, earth and leather. The palate is in a very ripe profile, but its acidity level is sufficiently honest to make it a well-balanced wine. The tannins are well coated. A typical Corton true to its terroir of origin, which gives great pleasure to drink today.

Rougeot Dupin Echezeaux 1999 Well-evolved colour. Suspicious nose. The intense port aromas leave one perplexed… The palate is somewhat more reassuring. It hints at notes of fruit in eau-de-vie and undergrowth. Even if this producer is not known for very long ageing potential, there is some doubt regarding the storage of this bottle…

Michel Noellat Echezeaux 1999 Fairly evolved colour with tiled hues. A nose of great complexity, featuring blood orange, compoted small red fruits, faded flowers and undergrowth. The palate honours the nose. At once full and delicate, with unfailing straightness, it rests on an absolutely remarkable length. Unquestionably the bottle of the evening!

Dominique Laurent Mazis Chambertin 1994 Intense and evolved colour. The nose is very intense, featuring leather, undergrowth and small stone fruits. The palate, with good concentration, reveals tannins that are still quite perceptible. A fine achievement in a challenging vintage.

Thibault Liger Bel Air Clos Vougeot 2003 Very intense colour, still fairly unevolved. The nose is marked by its vintage but without excess: compoted red fruits and crushed strawberry. The palate also manages to distinguish itself with an honest and remarkable balance. The beautiful intensity of the fruit is well underscored by the fine length that carries this wine.
