The Clos Rougeard Saumur-Champigny Le Bourg 1995 Magnum, from the clay-limestone soils of Saumur-Champigny, reveals the finest of Cabernet Franc. Aged in new oak barrels, it marries black fruits, tobacco and leather with a chalky minerality and vibrant freshness. Perfect with red meats or game after a few years of cellaring.
A family estate rooted in Chacé, at the heart of the Saumur-Champigny appellation, where eight generations have shaped a viticultural heritage built on exacting standards and quiet discretion.
- Terroir: Shallow clay-loam soils along the Loire riverbank, lending the wines a chalky minerality and characteristic tension.
- Winemaking: Extended aging in new oak barrels, with absolute respect for the fruit and terroir, without artifice.
Tasting notes for Clos Rougeard Saumur-Champigny Le Bourg 1995 Magnum
To the eye: Garnet red robe with tawny highlights, of silky density and a brilliance subtly veiled by time.
On the nose: Aromas of candied morello cherry, wild blackberry and blonde tobacco, lifted by a touch of aged leather and a saline note reminiscent of the chalky subsoils of Saumur-Champigny.
On the palate: Velvety and taut texture, carried by a lively acidity and persistent minerality, with a long and elegant finish where gentle spices and woodland notes intertwine.
Serve at 16°C in a Bordeaux-style red wine glass to fully release its complexity.
