The Clos Rougeard Saumur-Champigny Les Poyeux 2019, sourced from vines on sandstone and tuffeau, is a Cabernet Franc aged two years in barrel. Its aromas of cherry and spices, along with its fresh and mineral palate, make it a wine for aging. To be enjoyed until 2030 with red meats or aged cheeses.
A family estate rooted in Chacé since 1664, Clos Rougeard embodies the excellence of Loire wines, shaped by a unique terroir and an uncompromising winemaking tradition.
- Terroir: Eroded sandstone and tuffeau limestone soils in Saumur-Champigny, where Cabernet Franc flourishes under a temperate climate, revealing a chalky minerality and a vibrant freshness.
- Vinification: Organic methods, patient aging in barrel and bottle for cuvées of rare precision, combining structure and elegance.
Tasting notes for Clos Rougeard Saumur-Champigny Les Poyeux 2019
On the eye: A garnet red robe with deep highlights, of a silky texture and promising density.
On the nose: Aromas of tart red cherry, wild blackberry and black olive mingle with notes of soft spices, liquorice and thyme, lifted by a saline touch and a chalky minerality characteristic of the terroir.
On the palate: A frank and fleshy attack, where the tension of ripe fruit engages with a lively acidity and a fine, almost powdery tannic structure, before a long and saline finish carried by a mineral elegance.
Serve at 16–18°C in a Bordeaux-style red wine glass to fully release its aromas.
