What makes Champagne Louis Roederer Cristal so unique among prestige cuvées?
At the request of Alexander II, the first "prestige cuvée" in history, Cristal, was created in 1876 for the exclusive consumption of the Tsars of Russia. The vines that contribute to the elaboration of the Cristal cuvée come from 45 individual plots among the most chalky in Champagne, and are at least 25 years old, the threshold at which the chalk terroir expresses itself fully. It is this combination of exceptional plots and an extended ageing of more than six years in the cellar that gives Cristal its incomparable saline character and aromatic precision.
