La Maison Romane

La Maison Romane wines: buy at the best price

Located at the heart of the Côte de Nuits, La Maison Romane is one of the most sought-after names in contemporary Burgundy. Founded by Oronce de Beler, joined by Victorine de Beler, this micro négociant winery produces terroir wines of great purity, predominantly from Pinot Noir for the reds and Chardonnay for the whites. Hand-harvested in whole clusters, aged in old oak barrels, no fining or filtration, sulphur reduced to the strict minimum, and hand-bottled sealed with a wax stamp: each cuvée reflects a minimalist and natural winemaking approach, faithful to the fruit and the soil.

History of La Maison Romane

The adventure begins in 2004, when Oronce de Beler leaves Paris and the world of advertising to settle in Vosne-Romanée, driven by an all-consuming passion for Burgundy's pinot noir. He finds a home close to the village's legendary cellars, undertakes a viticultural training course in Beaune, accumulates internships at family estates, and then launches a first horse-drawn plowing operation on the Côte d'Or. It is through these encounters and tastings that La Maison Romane is born.

During the 2005 harvest, Oronce de Beler purchased his first grapes and vinified his first vintage in an ancient Romanesque cellar that would give the house its name. In 2017, the adventure took on a new dimension with the move to a larger vaulted cellar in Nuits-Saint-Georges, enabling measured growth while preserving the same winemaking philosophy from the very first vintage.

Terroirs and Vines of La Maison Romane

As a négociant winemaker, La Maison Romane sources grapes from carefully selected partner growers whose vines are farmed organically, biodynamically or according to practices that respect the soils and their microbial life. The plots span the finest terroirs of the Côte de Nuits and the Hautes Côtes, on clay and limestone soils that define the singular character of Burgundy.

Oronce de Beler cultivates close and lasting relationships with his grape suppliers, who are present across prestigious appellations such as Marsannay, Fixin, Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, Vosne-Romanée, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Savigny-lès-Beaune and Pommard. The temperate climate of the Côte d'Or, with its mild autumns and rare frosts, allows for late harvests, a guarantee of perfect grape ripeness and the exceptional quality sought in every wine.

Winemaking at La Maison Romane

The winemaking at La Maison Romane has remained unchanged since the beginning: minimalist, natural and respectful of the terroir. Harvesting is entirely manual, with rigorous selection of the bunches in the vineyard and on the sorting table, and vinification is systematically carried out with whole clusters to preserve fruit and freshness. In the cellar, interventions are kept to a strict minimum, with light punch-downs limited to the final phase and minimal — if any — use of sulfur.

Aging lasts approximately twelve months in old Burgundian oak barrels, some passed down by neighbors on the Côte de Nuits, so as to add complexity without marking the wine with oaky notes. True to its pursuit of purity, the house neither fines nor filters, and each bottle is corked by hand then sealed with a wax stamp, the authentic signature of all the wines.

The wines of La Maison Romane

Bourgogne Rouge is the entry point into the world of the house, a pleasurable and easy-drinking pinot noir that offers an immediate reading of the house style: pure fruit, freshness and drinkability. It is an ideal introduction, crafted with the same rigor as the more prestigious appellations.

Côtes de Nuits-Villages is a pinot noir red wine from the peripheral communes of the Côte de Nuits. With a supple and fruity structure, it reveals a fine energy and a minerality typical of the limestone soils of this area.

Marsannay Longeroies comes from one of the most renowned lieu-dits of the Marsannay appellation, at the northern tip of the Côte de Nuits. This pinot noir combines crunchy red fruits, freshness and a fine tannic structure that gives it excellent aging potential.

Fixin Les Clos is a characterful red born from a terroir renowned for its straight and deep wines. The pinot noir here expresses notes of black fruits, a firm structure and a salinity that is the hallmark of Fixin.

Chambolle-Musigny embodies the finesse and delicacy that are hallmarks of this mythical village. All elegance, this wine seduces with its floral fragrance, silky texture and great delicacy on the palate.

Vosne-Romanée Aux Réas comes from the historic heartland of the house, on a lieu-dit neighboring the greatest vineyards of the village. This deep and refined pinot noir blends ripe red fruits, fine spices and a remarkable length, a fully realized expression of the Vosne-Romanée terroir.

Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Chaines Carteaux is one of the most sought-after wines of the house. This premier cru offers a powerful and refined structure, aromas of black fruits and spices, and a strong aging potential, faithful to the reputation of great Nuits-Saint-Georges.

Gevrey-Chambertin showcases the power and depth of this iconic village on the Côte de Nuits. Built on a full-bodied pinot noir, the wine unfolds notes of black fruits and liquorice, with a dense body crafted for aging.

Savigny-lès-Beaune, produced as both a village wine and a premier cru, marks the house's foray into the Côte de Beaune. This fresh and fragrant pinot noir, with red fruit and gentle spice, illustrates the immediate pleasure of the Savigny terroirs.

Pommard 1er Cru is one of the finest red expressions from the house in the Côte de Beaune. Fleshy, structured and full-bodied, this premier cru develops aromas of black fruits and undergrowth, with firm tannins that call for several years of cellaring.

Hautes-Côtes de Nuits, in both red and white, completes the range with fresh, altitude-driven wines from the higher slopes of the Côte de Nuits. The pinot noir reds are lively and fruity, while the chardonnay whites offer beautiful minerality and a mouthwatering tension.

The chardonnay wines enrich a predominantly red production, with whites from the Côte de Nuits and Hautes-Côtes de Nuits that charm with their freshness, purity and elegant minerality, vinified with the same natural approach as the reds.

Les Mousses Sauvages round out the world of the house with artisanal wild ales (notably including Pig Ale, Mirabelle and Cueillette de Printemps), crafted in the same spirit of spontaneous fermentation and naturalness, to be discovered alongside the wines of Burgundy.
