Owned by the Corre-Macquin family since 1887, the 15-hectare vineyard is planted on a limestone plateau and has been farmed biodynamically since the 1990s.

The vines are more than 30 years old on average, planted at a density of 6,000 vines per hectare, and consist of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. The estate does not produce white wines.

Domaine Pavie Macquin makes two red wines: its first wine, called "Fine Wine of Pavie Macquin," and the château’s second wine, "Les Chênes de Macquin." The estate has enjoyed a remarkable rise since the late 1980s, when Nicolas Thienpont took charge of the vineyard. The estate’s Fine Wine, made from its best plots, is known for being powerful, rich, relatively dense, and full-bodied. Its complex aromas range from black fruit (blackcurrant, blackberry, and blueberry) to mineral notes, coffee, and smoky oak. In great vintages, it can age in the cellar for 10 to 20 years. Pavie Macquin’s second wine offers red fruit on the palate, with softer, less pronounced tannins and a slightly lighter color. More approachable than the fine wine, it can be enjoyed within five years or allowed to improve in the cellar for up to eight years, depending on the vintage. Château Pavie Macquin’s finest vintages are 2015, 2014, 2010, 2009, 2008, 2006, 2005, 2003, 2000, 1998, 1990, and 1989. The estate’s wines offer very good value for a Premier Grand Cru Classé B.
