Aged 30 years on average, the vines of the Chateau Evangile are treated according to the principle of Agriculture raisonnée (reasonable agriculture, meaning with a more reasonable approach in terms of chemicals use). The varietals cultivated are Merlot (80%) and Cabernet Franc (20%).
The Grand Vin of Chateau Evangile is considered to be among the elite of Pomerol, especially since the beginning of the 2000s, and continues to hold its position thanks to important work in the fields and the cellar. Chateau L'Evangile has benefited from important investments and technical competences of the team of the Domaine Barons de Rothschild such as the acquisition of new plots of land and a restructuration of the vineyards. They produce 2 wines: the Grand vin de L’Evangile and a second called « les Blasons de l’Evangile ». The first is a powerful wine, generous, ample and unctuous with amazing depth. It has exceptional ageing capacity ranging from 8 to 30 years. In its best years, L'Evangile can get excellent notes from international critics: 2015, 2014, 2010, 2009 (noted 100/100 Parker), 2005, 2001, 2000, 1998, 1996, 1995, 1990, 1985, 1982, 1975, 1961. It's second wine, « Blason de L'Evangile », more supple with less elevage in 2 years old barrels, is an excellent introduction to their Grand vin. The wines of Château L'Evangile come highly recommended and are sought after as much for their quality as for their aging capacity.
