Numerous classifications have been established for the great wines of Bordeaux.

  • The 1855 classification of Left Bank Grands Crus (Médoc and Graves)

In this category, you will find wines from the 1855 classification, along with the finest crus from the Saint Emilion Grand Cru classification. 

  • Château Margaux: A benchmark of the Margaux appellation, this exceptional château underwent a spectacular revival in the late 1970s, placing it at the forefront of the 1855 classification. Its wines are deep, opulently rich, and extraordinarily complex, with aromas of blackcurrant, blueberry, and sometimes violet, alongside vanilla and spice from oak. Delicious and capable of long aging, their purity attracts wine lovers from around the world.

  • Château Lafite Rothschild: Also of exceptional quality and an icon of the Pauillac appellation, Lafite Rothschild is an outstanding fine wine: rich, full-bodied, and flavorful, with characteristic aromas of cedar, graphite, and tobacco. It also has exceptional aging potential, developing beautifully over 15 to 30 years in the cellar.

  • Château Latour: Another icon of Pauillac, this château’s wines come from vines averaging 40 years of age and bring together the four red grape varieties of Bordeaux. The château is considered the most consistently outstanding of the classified growths. Latour is powerful, tannic, concentrated, rich, and intense. It develops aromas of blackcurrant, tobacco, and sweet spice, while also offering enormous aging potential (20 to 40 years).

  • Château Mouton Rothschild: Another Rothschild family property, this wine is also of remarkable quality and fully deserved its promotion to Pauillac’s Premiers Crus Classés. Mouton Rothschild produces sumptuous wines in its best vintages, many of which have received a 100/100 Parker score. Built to age, opulent, rich, and flavorful, with characteristic aromas of crème de cassis, tobacco, coffee, and Eastern spices, Mouton is highly sought after by enthusiasts and collectors for its labels featuring works by famous artists since 1945.

  • Haut Brion: The only Graves wine included in the Médoc classification! It is both a Premier Grand Cru Classé under the 1855 classification and a Grand Cru Classé of Pessac Léognan. It thus stands above all other wines in its appellation! Superb in its complexity and rare aromatic elegance, it improves for 30 years or more! This wine has received a 100/100 Parker score six times, and its renown has driven prices sharply higher.

  • Yquem: The only classified Premier Cru Supérieur of Sauternes and Barsac, Château Yquem is a global benchmark for sweet wines. Its Sémillon (75%) and Sauvignon (25%) vines, around 35 years old, are grown using sustainable viticultural practices. In great vintages, Yquem is opulent, rich, powerful, smooth, and full-bodied, with notes of orange marmalade, pineapple, apricot, peach, crème brûlée, spice, and coconut. With its exceptional length, it is worth waiting at least 15 years before enjoying it to appreciate its magnificent range of mature flavors. Some vintages can age for up to 100 years! This wine leaves a lasting impression!

  • Angélus: One of the great wines of Saint Emilion, it achieved Grand Cru Classé A status in the appellation’s namesake classification in 2012 before later leaving it. This fine wine is exceptional: concentrated, precise, and refined, while retaining lovely fruit freshness and elegance thanks to a high proportion of Merlot.

  • Ausone: A Premier Grand Cru Classé A with biodynamically tended vines, just two grape varieties—55% Cabernet Franc and 45% Merlot—and a distinctive, well-exposed terroir, Ausone stands apart from other Saint Emilion wines. Powerful and highly aromatic, with great freshness, this is an exceptional wine with a seemingly endless finish after 10 to 15 years in bottle. 

  • Pavie: Also a Saint Emilion Premier Grand Cru Classé A since 2012, it owes its success to the arrival of winemaker Gérard Perse, who made his mark with the 1998 vintage—a turning point in the château’s quality. Powerful, structured, and richly extracted, with notes of cherry, blackcurrant, licorice, spice, and smoke, Château Pavie deserves several long years in the cellar before revealing its splendor.

  • Cheval Blanc: On the edge of the Pomerol appellation, Cheval Blanc may be Saint Emilion’s greatest wine. Voluptuous, exotic, exceptionally rich, and deep, with notes of blackcurrant, blackberry, plum, cherry, mint, and leather, it also offers magnificent length and immense concentration to delight the palate.

  • Figeac: A neighbor of Cheval Blanc, Figeac recently became a Saint Emilion Premier Grand Cru Classé A. Its nearly equal proportions of three Bordeaux grape varieties set this wine apart. Ruby-colored and richly fruity, with varied notes of dark fruit, mint, cedar, and aromatic herbs in beautiful harmony, it drinks well young and ages gracefully.
