This small family estate of approximately 6 hectares, planted exclusively with Pinot Noir, is today considered one of the essential references of the appellation. With no fewer than nine Premiers Crus de Chambolle-Musigny in its range, the estate offers a rare and precious mosaic of terroirs. Despite its modest size, Domaine Ghislaine Barthod is very much focused on the Chambolle-Musigny AOC, as in addition to its Village cuvée, it holds no fewer than 9 Premier Crus in Chambolle (the village has 24 in total). The estate's range includes the following Chambolle-Musigny 1ers Crus: Les Baudes, Aux Beaux Bruns, Les Charmes, Les Châtelots, Aux Combottes, Les Cras, Les Véroilles, Les Fuées, and finally the Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Gruenchers. The Chambolle-Musigny 1ers Crus Les Fuées, Les Cras, Les Baudes and Les Véroilles surround the Grand Cru Bonnes Mares, and offer a glimpse of the class and density of the Grand Cru they encircle. The Premiers Crus Les Charmes and Les Châtelots are situated more towards the centre of the Chambolle vineyard, and Les Charmes is a particularly seductive 1er Cru that seems to embody many of the finest qualities of Chambolle. At Domaine Ghislaine Barthod, the grapes are only partially destemmed, and only natural yeasts are used. The aging is understated and lasts approximately 20 months, with a proportion of 20 to 25% new oak. The various Chambolle-Musigny crus from Domaine Ghislaine Barthod possess distinct personalities, and after a few years of cellaring (7 to 12 years), these great Pinot Noirs reveal a floral and spiced bouquet, offering a refined and complex palate. Under Ghislaine's direction, the estate's reputation has grown considerably on the international stage, and Domaine Ghislaine Barthod is widely regarded as one of the most qualitative and representative estates for the great wines of Chambolle-Musigny. The modest size of the vineyard contributes to the scarcity of bottles, given the strong demand from enthusiasts.
