The TOP winemakers of Rhône

The estate has a vineyard of 5 Ha (4.8 Ha in red Rhone with 80% Grenache Noir, 20% Mourvèdre) and 0.2 Ha in white Rhone (95% Clairette and 5% Grenache Blanc). The entire vineyard is divided into 6 plots, all located on the Orange road in the quarters of Palastor, Bois Dauphin and Cabrière. A former Michelin-starred chef, Jérôme Gradassi converted to winemaking in 2004, following the acquisition of 3 Ha of vineyards from his grandfather. Since then, he has been managing his own estate, which he cultivates alone with the greatest care, opting for a traditional approach: grapes with little or no destemming, vinified without artifice, and aged barrels (no new oak barrels). The "cold soils" exploited by the estate are not affected by drought and produce elegant wines, focusing more on finesse than power, with abundant garrigue aromas. Domaine Jérôme Gradassi offers a small production: a single cuvée in each color, limited to approximately 10,000 bottles of red Châteauneuf du Pape, and 800 bottles of white Châteauneuf du Pape. Jérôme Gradassi uses no fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides, and only sulfur, but in moderation. Soil work is traditional, and harvesting is done manually in crates. In the cellar, the grapes are vinified as whole bunches in tiled concrete vats carved into the rock, which helps maintain gentle natural warmth over a long period. Vinifications are classic, using indigenous yeasts, with approximately 4 weeks of maceration and manual punch-downs. The aging is short, 10 months in old barrels (between 4 and 10 years old). The Gradassi red Châteauneuf offers an expressive and very pleasant nose of black cherry, pepper, licorice, and blood orange. The palate is unctuous with excellent balance and fine tannins. It can easily be aged for 10 to 15 years. The splendid white is very unique, with its 2 varieties of Clairette (white and pink) that provide a distinctive nose and palate. It exudes sea and shellfish aromas, complemented by a touch of fennel. The palate, taut on the attack, opens up with a soft and full body. It can be enjoyed young or left to develop for 10 years. Do not hesitate to discover the 2 wines from Domaine Gradassi if you are not yet familiar with its production, as the only drawback will soon be the difficulty of obtaining them, given the estate's very small production.
