Domaine Saint Préfert possesses numerous distinct terroirs, which reinforced Isabel Ferrando's choice to produce differentiated cuvées in terms of style, with a strong common identity: characterful cuvées. To assist her in this quest, Isabel Ferrando has at Domaine St Préfert a vineyard with an average age of 60 years where massal selection has always been practiced since 1920, thus preserving the unique identity and style of Saint Préfert. Although as a new winemaker in Châteauneuf-du-Pape she was supported and helped during the early years, since 2009 she has been in sole command and has found her own style. Domaine Saint Préfert has since taken an impressive qualitative turn, which now places it in the leading pack of wines from the Southern Rhône Valley in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. As Domaine Saint Préfert wishes to produce beautiful cuvées, Isabel Ferrando never hesitates to limit yields, rarely exceeding 30 hectoliters per hectare. The concentrated and very fleshy juices can thus reflect the expression of the finest terroirs of the appellation worked in sustainable cultivation. In the range of wines from Domaine St Préfert, the classic Châteauneuf-du-Pape red cuvée is aged 15 months in concrete vats, and its fruitiness is well defined. The red cuvée Colombis from Saint Préfert is a pure Grenache from 80-year-old vines, and its 18-month aging in truncated wooden vats gives it controlled power. The Auguste Favier cuvée from Saint Préfert is velvety and elegant, with restrained power. Finally, the Châteauneuf Charles Giraud cuvée asserts its Provençal accent with a powerful and wilder aromatic profile, probably due to the high proportion of Mourvèdre (40%) in its composition. In Rhône white wine, the Châteauneuf is composed of 60% Clairette and 40% Roussanne. Smooth, round and finely buttery, its voluptuousness will make it an excellent table companion. The best vintages for the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation are as follows: 1985, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1995, 1998, 2000, 2005, 2011, 2015 and 2017. Domaine Saint Préfert is therefore among the reference crus of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, with brilliant and modern wines, in an assertive style, which will not leave lovers of Grenache and this magnificent appellation indifferent.
