This enabled Faiveley to acquire 20 hectares of vines, most of them old, including three grands crus: Mazis-Chambertin (50-year-old vines), Charmes-Chambertin (60-year-old vines) and Corton Rognet. The acquisition also included several renowned Gevrey-Chambertin Premiers Crus, such as “Les Cazetiers” (two hectares of 50-year-old vines), “Les Lavaux-Saint-Jacques” and “La Petite Chapelle,” as well as village appellation holdings, including nine hectares of Gevrey-Chambertin village and three hectares of Marsannay village.

Faiveley continues to market these wines under the Dupont Tisserandot name, and the current generation remains involved in managing the estate, now in the Faiveley style.

Domaine Faiveley is a Burgundy institution founded by Pierre Faiveley in 1825, at a time when King Louis XIV and his court were beginning to take an interest in Burgundy wines. The company is still run by the Faiveley family. François Faiveley and his son Erwan now represent its sixth and seventh generations respectively, embodying the dynamism of this renowned family firm, which currently manages no fewer than 140 hectares in Burgundy.

The wines produced under the Dupont Tisserandot name have a reputation for deep concentration and faithful expression of their diverse terroirs. They capture the essence of Gevrey-Chambertin, with black fruit, licorice and spice, a full palate and a certain firmness on the finish.

The grapes are hand-harvested and fully destemmed before a cold pre-fermentation maceration at 12 °C for five to eight days, followed by fermentation with native yeasts for 15 to 18 days. The style is modern without going to excess.

The wines are aged on their lees in oak barrels for up to 18 months before bottling, to preserve as much fruit and freshness as possible. The Premiers Crus and grands crus are aged mainly in new barrels.

The Gevrey-Chambertin offers magnificent fruit quality, while the “La Petite Chapelle” Premier Cru has exceptionally fine tannins that come into their own once the generous new-oak character has integrated.

Mazis-Chambertin is the archetypal Gevrey-Chambertin grand cru: its class and pedigree show in its added substance and great complexity. These wines are made to age, and enthusiasts know they need time to reveal their full potential.
