This has permitted Faiveley to acquire 20 hectares of, mostly, old vines and composed of 3 grands crus, Mazis Chambertin (50 year old vines), Charmes Chambertin (60 year old vines) and Corton Rognet and different 1er crus of great notoriety in Gevrey Chambertin such as" Les Cazetiers" (2 hectares of 50 year-old vines), "Les Lavaux-St-Jacques" and "La Petite Chapelle", as well as village appellations including 9 hectares of Gevrey Chambertin village and 3 hectares of Marsannay village. Faiveley continue to sell those wines under the Dupont Tisserandot name, and the current generation continues to be part of the management of the winery albeit now with the Faiveley style. The Domaine Faiveley is a Burgundian institution founded in 1825 by Pierre Faiveley during a period where the King Louis XIV and his court began to show an interest in the wines from Burgundy. The group is still under the direction of the Faiveley family, of which François Faiveley and his son Erwan are the current examples, each incarnating the 6th and 7th generations and the dynamism of this renowned family-owned operation that presently oversees an astounding 140 hectares in Burgundy. The wines produced under the name Dupont Tisserandot have a reputation of being deeply concentrated and true to their diverse terroir. Such is the essence of Gevrey Chambertin marked by black fruit, liquorice, spices, full body with a certain firmness in the finish. Grapes are hand-picked and completely de-stemmed before cold maceration at 12° over five to eight days and fermentation, with indigenous yeasts, for 15 to 18 days. The style is modern, yet avoiding any excess. Ageing takes place on the lees in oak barrels up to 18 months before bottling, so as to conserve and maximum of fruit and freshness. This is done mostly in new oak for the first growths and grand crus. The Gevrey Chambertin offers a gorgeous quality of fruit and the 1er cru "Petite Chapelle" displays tannins of great finesse that flourish once the luxuriant new oak has been absorbed. The Mazis-Chambertin is textbook Gevrey-Chambertin Grand cru whose class and pedigree are thanks to a supplement of flesh and complexity. The wines are built for ageing and amateurs know to give them the time to shine.
