History of Domaine Jeremy Carteret

Domaine Jeremy Carteret is the expression of a personal project born of a winemaker's passion for his land. After a career rich in experience across various Burgundian estates, Jeremy Carteret decided to create his own structure in order to produce wines in his own image: precise, sincere and faithful to their origins.

Established in the south of Burgundy, primarily around the appellations of the Mâconnais, the estate officially came into being during the 2010s. From its very first vintages, it attracted the attention of enthusiasts and professionals alike for the accuracy of its interpretations of chardonnay, the king grape variety of the region.

Working on small plots and favoring a very artisanal approach, Jeremy Carteret is part of this new generation of Burgundian winemakers who prioritize the expression of terroir over technical demonstration. This philosophy, combined with a constant pursuit of quality, has allowed the domaine de earn a place of choice among the rising names of Burgundy.

Terroirs and Vines of Domaine Jeremy Carteret

The vineyard of Domaine Jeremy Carteret is spread across several plots located around the iconic villages of the Mâconnais: Viré-Clessé, Mâcon-Loché, Mâcon-Fuissé and Saint-Véran. These terroirs, often composed of clay-limestone and marl-limestone soils, provide an ideal setting for the expression of chardonnay.

Each plot is managed individually in order to respect its specific characteristics. Domaine Carteret attaches paramount importance to the care given to the vines: soil work, controlled yields, manual harvesting and a constant pursuit of optimal ripeness.

Without necessarily claiming an official certification, the approach is clearly rooted in a spirit close to organic farming and sustainable viticulture. The objective is simple: to produce healthy, concentrated grapes with a strong identity, an indispensable foundation for crafting great white wines from Burgundy.

Winemaking at Domaine Jeremy Carteret

In the cellar, Jeremy Carteret adopts a minimalist approach that is respectful of the raw material. Winemaking is conducted with precision, without excessive intervention, in order to preserve the authenticity of the grapes and the typicity of the terroirs.

Fermentations take place in stainless steel vats or Burgundian barrels depending on the cuvée. The aging process, often carried out on fine lees, brings texture and complexity to the wines while preserving freshness and tension.

The style of Domaine Jeremy Carteret is characterized by straight, clean and elegant wines with a beautiful minerality. Wines that are ready to drink in their youth, yet also capable of evolving favorably in the bottle for several years.

The Cuvées of Domaine Jeremy Carteret

Domaine Jeremy Carteret – Mâcon-Villages

White wine introduction to the estate, this white wine offers a fresh and pleasurable expression of chardonnay. Notes of citrus, white flowers and white-fleshed fruit, for a wine that is accessible and perfectly balanced.

Domaine Jeremy Carteret – Mâcon-Loché

Sourced from plots around the village of Loché, this wine stands out for its beautiful vivacity and pronounced minerality. A precise and elegant white, ideal for discovering the winemaker's style.

Domaine Jeremy Carteret – Viré-Clessé

The estate's flagship appellation, this cuvée reveals a fuller, more structured profile. Aromas of ripe fruit, pear and peach, supported by a fine limestone tension.

Domaine Jeremy Carteret – Saint-Véran

Frequently Asked Questions – Domaine Jérémy Carteret

How to serve a wine from Domaine Jérémy Carteret?

The red Burgundies of Domaine Jérémy Carteret, primarily made from pinot noir, are served between 15 and 17 °C to fully reveal their aromas and structure. The white wines, made from chardonnay, are enjoyed between 11 and 13 °C to preserve their freshness and finesse. Younger or more closed cuvées may benefit from a light aeration of around thirty minutes, while older wines are opened just before serving so as not to dissipate their delicate aromas.

What to eat with a wine from Domaine Jérémy Carteret?

Pinot noirs pair well with grilled or roasted red meats, poultry, light braised dishes and certain pressed cheeses. Chardonnays complement fish, seafood, poultry, shellfish or aged pressed cheeses. More evolved cuvées or those from great terroirs pair beautifully with gastronomic dishes or subtle land-and-sea combinations.

What are the best vintages of wines from Domaine Jérémy Carteret?

For red wines, the vintages 2010, 2013, 2015 and 2018 are particularly recommended for their structure, finesse and aging potential. For white wines, the vintages 2012, 2014 and 2018 stand out for their balance and aromatic tension. Even the more challenging vintages yield quality wines thanks to the estate's consistent standards of work.

How to store a wine from Domaine Jérémy Carteret?

Red wines can be kept for between 5 and 15 years depending on the cuvée and the vintage, while whites can evolve for between 5 and 12 years. They should be stored on their side, away from light, in a cellar with a stable temperature of 12 to 14 °C and moderate humidity. Careful storage allows wines to develop complexity and harmony without losing their freshness or elegance.
