Jérémy Carteret is one of Burgundy’s understated yet exceptionally talented winemakers. For many years, he worked alongside Benjamin Leroux, a leading figure at Domaine Comte Armand in Pommard and founder of a négociant house in 2007. Under this demanding mentor, Jérémy developed his perspective as a winemaker, absorbing the secrets of fine Burgundy, learning to read the soils, respect the rhythm of the seasons and understand the inner vitality of a fine wine.

The turning point in his career came when Benjamin Leroux offered him the chance to take charge of an old Pinot Noir plot—a generous gift that would change everything. Without hesitation, Jérémy committed to the project with a careful, artisanal approach, choosing amphora aging, an ancestral method that allows natural micro-oxygenation to preserve fruit aromas while refining the wine’s structure.

The company “A Fleur de Peau,” established in 2020, is the legal entity behind this small-scale négociant business, headquartered in La Rochepot in the Côte-d’Or. The bond between the two men is such that Benjamin Leroux also makes his cellar available to his protégé for aging, storing and bottling future cuvées. From the outset, the estate has excited the most discerning natural wine enthusiasts, confirming Jérémy Carteret as one of contemporary Burgundy’s great emerging talents.

Terroirs and Vines of Domaine Jérémy Carteret

Jérémy Carteret’s vineyards are rooted in two complementary Côte de Beaune appellations: the regional Bourgogne appellation and the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune. Both have remarkable geological richness that gives the estate’s wines their distinctive identity.

The Pinot Noir vines flourish at an altitude of around 300 meters along the limestone plateaus characteristic of the region. These mineral-rich clay-limestone soils provide an ideal foundation for a Pinot Noir that is taut and expressive, with impressive aromatic length. Chardonnay, meanwhile, shows crystalline minerality, shaped by the depth of the limestone and the freshness of the altitude.

Based in the Côte de Beaune, Jérémy Carteret grows his vines organically, taking an artisanal approach that respects the soil, the plants and the vines’ natural rhythm. Winemaking at Domaine Jérémy Carteret

For Jérémy Carteret, winemaking is above all an act of respect. Respect for the grapes, respect for the terroir, respect for time. After hand-harvesting, the grapes are carefully sorted and taken to the winery, where they are vinified naturally with human intervention and sulfur use kept to a minimum.

For red wines from old vines, the estate’s defining signature is amphora aging. This Pinot Noir stands out for its meticulous aging in amphora, an ancient method that lends it remarkable richness of flavor. Subtle micro-oxygenation and the gentle interaction between the wine and the amphora’s porous clay are key to this Burgundy’s distinctive character. The first vintage, a 2020 Bourgogne red, spent ten months aging in these clay vessels, yielding a wine of striking depth and complexity.

The white cuvées and reds intended for immediate enjoyment are vinified in stainless steel tanks to preserve the freshness and intensity of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir aromas in their purest expression. This dual approach—amphora for depth, stainless steel for vibrancy—reflects Jérémy Carteret’s constant consideration of the best tools to bring out the qualities of each plot.

The Cuvées of Domaine Jérémy Carteret

À Fleur de Peau / Caresse: The estate’s founding masterpiece, this cuvée was born from an old Pinot Noir plot in Monthélie entrusted to Jérémy by Benjamin Leroux. Aged for ten months in amphora, it represents the winemaker’s most fully realized and personal vision. The wine offers delicate aromas of ripe red fruit, raspberry and plum, accompanied by spicy and floral nuances, with notes of black cherry against a subtle backdrop of violet and pepper. On the palate, its silky, remarkably precise structure is supported by fine tannins and a long aromatic finish. Produced in minute quantities—just a few hundred bottles—this cuvée has become one of the most sought-after wines among collectors of natural Burgundy wines. Ink: Also made under the “À Fleur de Peau” label, Ink is a Bourgogne red that expresses the depth and density of Burgundian Pinot Noir. A demanding grape variety that requires careful viticulture and controlled yields, Pinot Noir here achieves the remarkable balance of finesse, fragrance, power and grace. Ink offers a dark, intriguing aromatic palette, with notes of ink, black fruit and sweet spices, held in a taut, elegant balance. It demonstrates Jérémy Carteret’s ability to offer several interpretations of his terroir, each distinct yet coherent.

Les Grandes Carelles: This cuvée takes its name from a specific vineyard plot, Les Grandes Carelles, whose soils give the wine a particularly mineral and structured expression. Pinot Noir develops a distinctive character here: a full palate, velvety tannins and a lingering finish shaped by the terroir’s limestone signature. Les Grandes Carelles illustrates the diversity of the sites Jérémy Carteret farms and his ability to faithfully convey their nuances in the glass.

Euphoria: Grown at an altitude of around 300 meters on the limestone plateaus of the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune, the vines in the plot known as “Les Crucibées” are farmed biodynamically. The hand-harvested grapes are sorted and then vinified naturally with minimal sulfur use. Its clear, slightly luminous garnet color gives way to an expressive nose that opens with red and black berries and subtle notes of cooked fruit. Rich and inviting on the palate, it reveals bold woodland aromas leading to a lingering, gently spiced finish.

Flower Power: The estate’s only white cuvée, Flower Power brings a sunny, vibrant note to the range. Made from Chardonnay grown on clay-limestone soils typical of the Côte de Beaune, this wine showcases the grape’s elegance, with mineral-rich soils lending it appealing minerality and an aromatic palette that reflects the terroir’s identity.
