"Cool-climate wines": discover the tasting report by Didier Frayssou from our Oenoschool tasting of January 10, 2016, and enjoy our notes on 10 different great wines!
An old gold color and a very ripe nose with notes of candied citrus, baked apple, and dried fruit. This wine has a beautiful concentration with sustained acidity. The finish is very slightly bitter. A truly beautiful sparkling wine!
The color is pale yellow. The nose, sulphurous (matchstick, smoky, toasted), delivers aromas of citrus and white fruits. The palate has great acidity and a beautiful straightforwardness on white fruits, citrus, and peach skin. Long and balanced, this wine nevertheless requires a great deal of time to deliver its full complexity and to dispel the bottling character still very much perceptible.
The color is evolved and golden. A very complex nose of greengage plum, mirabelle, apricot, baked apple, and dried fruit, also delivering floral notes and cream. The palate, with great volume and well-present acidity, offers a long finish on almond.
A pale yellow color. A complex but moderately intense nose of candied citrus, white fruits, flowers, cream, and butter, with a slight toasted note. A wine endowed with a very fine acidity/alcohol balance, possessing the concentration and length that still merit patience to be fully enjoyed.
The color is a more pronounced pale yellow than the previous bottle. The nose is toasted, floral, even vegetal, with notes of dried fruit. On the palate, the wine is straight with very sustained acidity, but far less integrated than in the previous ones.
The color is violet and the nose expressive: one finds small red fruits (raspberry, wild strawberry, cherry), but also vegetal notes, pepper, and violet. The palate is simple, the body light, with moderate complexity and sustained acidity.
An intensely violet, very concentrated color. The nose is slightly animal but also delivers notes of pepper, blackberry, chocolate, and crushed strawberry. On the palate, although the overall balance is good, the tannins are very firm and the finish quite drying. This wine deserves to be drunk with food or to benefit from long aging.
The color is hazy, of low intensity with brick-red hues. The nose is still fermentative but also delivers delicate floral notes and blood orange. The palate is very light, not very complex, with very light tannins. Aeration does it a world of good.
The color is intense and evolved. The nose is oxidized (despite irreproachable storage in chalk cellars), with notes of port and very cooked fruit. On the palate the acidity is sustained, the body balanced, but aromas of maderization are also dominant.
The color is a fairly pronounced gold. On the nose, one perceives aromas of liquorice, quince, pear, flowers, and pepper. The palate reveals a hint of sweetness on a very beautiful volume, supported by effective acidity and good length. A very beautiful wine in the making. Tempted by purchasing great cool-climate wines?
