Château Labégorce-Zédé

Appellation d'origine contrôlée and Cru Bourgeois Supérieur of Margaux

Château Labégorce-Zédé wines: buy at the best price!

Château Labégorce is a cru bourgeois supérieur of the Margaux appellation located on the left bank of the Bordeaux vineyard. It has belonged to the Perrodo family since 1989 (who also owns Marquis d'Alesme and Labegorce Zédé). Its vineyard now extends over 70 hectares of vines (sandy-gravelly and sandy-silty terroir), as the Perrodo family decided to reunify Labégorce and Labégorce Zédé in 2009, thus returning to the historical dimensions of Château Labégorge 215 years ago. The average age of the vines is close to 25 years, and the entire estate benefits from sustainable farming practices. The vineyard is composed of the 4 main grape varieties used in Bordeaux: 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot.

Château Labégorce has always been among the leading wines placed immediately behind the classified growths of Margaux in 1855. Labégorce Zédé was classified as cru bourgeois exceptionnel in 2003 during the revision of the crus bourgeois classification, which allows us to assess its level at that time. Château Labégorce now offers 2 red wines. The first wine, sold under the Labégorce Margaux label, represents 60% of production and presents the characteristics of a Margaux AOC with medium aging potential (7 to 12 years) in a charming and generous style; it can play on elegance and smoothness or on more immediate and explosive fruitiness depending on the vintage. Since 2009, a second wine called "Zédé de Labégorce" has also been offered, also produced by the Château, which represents 40% of production, and accompanied by traditional aging of 12 months in barrels (including 30% new wood). The aging potential of the second wine is quite close to that of the first wine (5 to 10 years). The best recent vintages of Labégorce are as follows: 2015, 2014, 2010, 2009, 2005. They are among the great years of Bordeaux wines. The affordable price of Labégorce bottles is an asset, and lovers of inexpensive Margaux will know how to take advantage of it.
