Domaine Bruno Clair was established in 1979 and is located in Marsannay la Côte, just north of Gevrey Chambertin in Burgundy, in the famous Côte de Nuits. It is an exclusively family-run estate, today spanning 25 ha and directed by Bruno Clair. The son and grandson of winemakers, the Clair name was already well known in Burgundy, but it was after the death of Joseph, his grandfather, that Domaine Bruno Clair truly came into its own in 1986, through the inheritance of his grandfather's vines following the dismantling of Domaine Clair Daü. With vines spread across 7 villages and 28 appellations, including Marsannay, Fixin, Gevrey Chambertin, Aloxe Corton, Morey St Denis, Chambolle Musigny, Vosne Romanée, Pernand Vergelesses) Domaine Bruno Clair offers a wide range of white Burgundy and red Burgundy wines comprising 3 Grand Crus (Bonnes Mares, Chambertin Clos de Bèze and Corton Charlemagne), 4 Premier Crus from Gevrey Chambertin (1er Cru Clos du Fonteny, 1er Cru les Cazetiers, 1er Cru Clos St Jacques and 1er Cru Petite Chapelle) and 2 Premier Crus from Savigny les Beaune (1er Cru les Jarrons and 1er Cru la Dominode). Respect for the soils has always been a primary concern at Domaine Bruno Clair, and winemaking is based on seeking the expression of each terroir, while favoring finesse. The considerable size of Domaine Bruno Clair and above all some magnificent climats such as the famous Chambertin Clos de Bèze or the most illustrious of Gevrey's Premier Crus, the Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St Jacques, or indeed the Burgundy Grand Cru Bonnes Mares from Morey Saint Denis, allow the estate to shine at the very top, thanks to such labels, which contribute greatly to the renown of the finest wines of the Côte de Nuits. In the vineyard, selection is strict and Bruno Clair ensures the propagation of his future pinot noir and chardonnay plants through rigorous massal selection. In the winery, partial destemming is practiced, followed by slow fermentations at low temperature, triggered naturally by indigenous yeasts. Aging lasts from 16 to 22 months on fine lees, with 20 to 50% new oak. It should be noted that the best red vintages across these appellations are 2015, 2012, 2010, 2009, 2005. The wines produced by Domaine Bruno Clair are precise, intense, elegant, with great length and finesse. Their aging potential is significant, and it is highly recommended to wait at least 10 years for the 3 Grand Crus and the famous Gevrey Chambertin Clos St Jacques in order to fully enjoy the evolution potential of such bottles. Their complexity will only be enhanced, and the lover of great Côte de Nuits wines will then be fully rewarded when tasting their bottles.
