At the helm of the family estate since 2004, Jérôme Castagnier cultivates approximately four hectares of vines spread across the most prestigious terroirs of the Côte de Nuits, complemented by a négociant activity that enriches his range with some truly beautiful cuvées in both white and red. Working with uncertified biodynamics and adopting a minimalist approach in the cellar since 2013, Jérôme Castagnier crafts wines of rare precision, combining finesse, freshness and depth. Four Grand Crus, sought-after Premier Crus and a village-level range of remarkable consistency have built the reputation of this estate, recognised by enthusiasts and international critics alike.

The TOP winemakers of Burgundy

Having succeeded his father Guy Castagnier at the estate since 2004, Jérôme Castagnier previously served in the Garde Républicaine, where he was particularly gifted in music, with his favourite instrument being the trumpet. Since his beginnings at the Castagnier estate, Jérôme has adapted exceptionally well and has managed to elevate the estate's production to a very high standard of excellence, renovating the facilities and bringing a new lease of life to the family estate. The range of crus on offer is broad and composed above all of superb Grand Cru labels such as Clos Saint Denis, Clos de Vougeot, Clos de la Roche, and Charmes Chambertin. The estate also offers the following Grand Crus through négociant trading: Mazis Chambertin, Chambertin Clos de Bèze, Bonnes Mares, Latricières Chambertin, Echezeaux and Grands Echezeaux. Also found in the Castagnier estate's range are a Chambolle Musigny village wine and a rare and superb Chambolle Musigny 1^er Cru les Amoureuses. A Gevrey Chambertin village wine and a Morey St Denis 1^er Cru aux Cheseaux round off the Castagnier wines. The Castagnier Chambolle Musigny village is indulgent, with creamy black cherry accompanied by spiced floral notes. The Castagnier Morey St Denis 1^er Cru aux Chéseaux is more focused on black fruits (blackcurrant), rich and concentrated on the palate, with a velvety and fruity texture. Its beautiful finish lingers with a fresh and elegant texture. The Grand Cru Clos St Denis from Castagnier is magnificent, with notes of Burlat cherry, blackberry and subtle hints of rose and peony. The body is dense yet silky, very intense in fruitiness, and the finish is harmonious, very long, and precise with liquorice notes. The Castagnier Charmes Chambertin offers an expressive and precise nose of black fruits with toasted notes in the background, a soft and sensual attack on the palate, beautiful indulgent and deeply layered substance, on a silky tannic structure; its finish is long and sapid. The Castagnier Clos de Vougeot presents a discreet nose of great finesse, where elegant and highly refined floral fragrances can be perceived. On the attack, it delivers a powerful palate with highly concentrated matter that is still a little tight in its youth, leading to a long and complex finish of violet, liquorice and graphite. Finally, the Castagnier Clos de la Roche is literally bewitching and intense, with raspberry, blackcurrant, blueberry, peony and gentle spices. The attack is velvety, complemented by ripe and rounded tannins, on a dense and powerful body of spiced fruits. Its finish is very dynamic, long and silky, of great breadth — a true must…. The Castagnier estate's production is approximately 70% estate wines and 30% négociant wines, and one can only recommend the Castagnier estate's wines, as it has been producing wines of excellence for over 10 years, to the delight of lovers of great Burgundy wines.
