Located in Saint-Just-sur-Dive, a few kilometers south of Saumur, Domaine Guiberteau has established itself in a single generation as one of the major references of the Loire Valley. Led by Romain Guiberteau since 1996 and trained alongside the Foucault brothers of Clos Rougeard, the estate grows exclusively Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc across some twenty hectares farmed organically, with a large portion on the mythical hill of Brézé.

The TOP winemakers of Loire

The harvest is done by hand and the wines are aged in oak barrels. The wines of Domaine Guiberteau have improved significantly thanks to the invaluable advice provided by the famous Clos Rougeard, a neighbour of the estate, who greatly helped Romain Guiberteau in his work in the vineyard in the early days. Since 2003, the estate has been certified organic and produces wines of extreme precision. Among the cuvées of Domaine Guiberteau, the Saumur rouge "Les Motelles" expresses a nose of dark fruits such as blackcurrant, but also cherry and blackberry. The palate is round and fruity with chalky notes linked to the limestone soil. The other Saumur rouge cuvée "Les Arboises" comes from old vines planted in the 1950s. The nose is very fresh and presents a light spicy note. The palate is rather dynamic with beautiful, deep tannins. Even though the reds have gained in finesse over the past few years, Domaine Guiberteau is better known for its whites; it offers 4 cuvées, including the Saumur Brézé cuvée, an emblematic cuvée of the region that could indeed be compared to certain white Burgundies with its toasted notes, its straightforwardness and its creamy character. The colour is golden with silvery highlights. The nose is toasted and finely oaked with quince notes. The mineral palate has a superb length on the finish.
