Romain Guiberteau settled in 1996 at this estate in the Val de Loire, located south of Saumur. Highly talented, he produces quality wines under the Saumur appellation. The estate extends across the communes of Montreuil-Bellay, Bizay and Brézé, a historic white grand cru of the Saumur appellation. The vineyard comprises 6 hectares of Cabernet Franc and 8.5 hectares of Chenin, resting on clay-limestone soils.

The TOP winemakers of Loire

The harvest is manual and aging takes place in oak barrels. The wines of Domaine Guiberteau have significantly improved thanks to the valuable advice given by the famous Clos Rougeard, neighbor of the estate, which greatly helped Romain Guiberteau in the vineyard work at the beginning. Since 2003, the estate has switched to certified organic farming and produces wines of extreme precision. Among the cuvées of Domaine Guiberteau, the Saumur red "Les Motelles" expresses a nose of black fruits such as blackcurrant, but also cherry and blackberry. The palate is round and fruity with notes of chalk linked to the limestone soil. The other Saumur red cuvée "Les Arboises" comes from old vines planted in the 1950s. The nose is very fresh and presents a slight spicy note. The palate is rather dynamic with beautiful and deep tannins. Even though the reds have gained in finesse in recent years, Domaine Guiberteau is better known for its whites, it has 4 cuvées including the Saumur Brézé cuvée, an emblematic cuvée of the region which could be compared to certain white Burgundies by its toasted notes, its straightness and its creamy side. The color is golden with silver reflections. The nose is toasted and finely oaked with notes of quince. The mineral palate has superb length on the finish.
