Emmanuel Reynaud succeeded his uncle Jacques, who passed away suddenly in 1997, at the helm of Château Rayas. He produces the most legendary wines of southern France. The red is an atypical 100% Grenache. It owes its singularity to the sandy, north-facing soils of the vineyard and the use of whole-cluster fermentation to craft this refined wine aged in old foudres. The result is breathtaking: a wine with Burgundian elegance that quickly makes one forget the traditional Châteauneuf-du-Pape canons. The white is also of the same vein. Made with Grenache Blanc and Clairette, it needs time to develop. Fans of Emmanuel Reynaud's wines can also turn to the Côtes-du-Rhône from Château de Fonsalette, which have the advantage of presenting a similar profile to Rayas but accessible at a younger age.

The TOP winemakers of Rhône

Château Rayas is one of the great names in French wine. Many connoisseurs consider it the best of the appellation. It owes its originality to the sandy soils with full northern exposure of the vineyard and the use of whole-bunch fermentation to produce this great wine aged in old barrels. The result is stunning: a wine with a Burgundian elegance that quickly makes one forget the traditional Châteauneuf du Pape.

While the red Rayas is produced with 100% Grenache, the white Rayas is produced with Grenache Blanc and Clairette.

The second wine, also a Châteauneuf du Pape, is called "Pignan" and can also be considered one of the finest examples of the appellation. 

Only small quantities are produced, 10,000 to 20,000 bottles of the first wine and, depending on the vintage, up to 12,000 bottles of the second wine. 

Under the Côtes du Rhône appellation are produced the "Fonsalette" labels in red (Grenache, Cinsaut and Syrah, as well as a pure Syrah) and white (Grenache Blanc, Marsanne and Clairette), as well as "La Pialade" which share a common profile and the same vinification as Rayas but are accessible at a younger age.
