Emmanuel Reynaud succeeded his uncle Jacques, who passed away suddenly, as head of Château Rayas in 1997. He crafts the most legendary wines of southern France. The red is an atypical 100% Grenache. It owes its singularity to the sandy, north-facing soils of the vineyard and the use of whole-cluster harvesting to produce this remarkably refined wine, aged in old large barrels. The result is breathtaking: a wine of distinctly Burgundian elegance that quickly makes one forget the traditional canons of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The white is equally in the same vein. Made from white Grenache and Clairette, it needs time to develop. Lovers of Emmanuel Reynaud's wines may also turn to the Côtes-du-Rhône from Château de Fonsalette, which have the advantage of sharing a common profile with Rayas but being accessible at a younger age.

The TOP winemakers of Rhône

Château Rayas is one of the great names in French wine. Many connoisseurs consider it the finest in the appellation. It owes its originality to the sandy soils with a full north-facing exposure of the vineyard and to the use of whole-cluster harvesting to produce this Fine Wine aged in old barrels. The result is breathtaking: a wine of distinctly Burgundian elegance that quickly makes one forget the traditional Châteauneuf de Pape.

While the red Rayas is produced with 100% Grenache, the white Rayas is produced with Grenache Blanc and Clairette.

The second wine, always a Châteauneuf du Pape, is called "Pignan" and can also be considered one of the finest examples of the appellation. 

Only small quantities are produced: 10,000 to 20,000 bottles of the first wine and, depending on the vintage, up to 12,000 bottles of the second wine. 

Under the Côtes du Rhône appellation, the brands "Fonsalette" are produced in red (Grenache, Cinsaut and Syrah, as well as a pure Syrah) and in white (Grenache Blanc, Marsanne and Clairette), as well as "La Pialade", which share a common profile and the same winemaking approach as Rayas but are more approachable at a younger age.
