Founded in 1977, the Yannick Amirault estate is located in the communes of Bourgueil and Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil in the Val de Loire. Yannick Amirault took over the 3.40 hectares of vines from his grandfather, including the emblematic Malgagnes terroir. In the 1990s, the Domaine Yannick Amirault expanded by acquiring the vines of two winegrowers, including one of Bourgueil's most sought-after terroirs: the Grand Clos. It was at this time that Yannick Amirault abandoned all herbicides and returned to traditional barrel ageing.

The TOP winemakers of Loire

It was only at a later stage, in 2006, with the arrival of his son Benoît who came to support him at the estate, that Domaine Yannick Amirault was certified in organic farming. At the same time, Yannick Amirault has consistently used biodynamic practices for every intervention on his wines. Since 2000, the estate spans 19 hectares, divided with 2/3 in the commune of Bourgueil and 1/3 in the commune of Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil. Both appellations are planted 100% with the Cabernet Franc grape variety. Domaine Yannick Amirault has 25 vine plots with an average age of around forty years. Harvests are always carried out by hand. The grapes are then destemmed at the vat house. The first wines are fermented in open vats and each cru is vinified in truncated conical foudres with long macerations of up to 6 weeks. Extraction is carried out as gently as possible, and foot pigeage remains a standard practice, mainly during the aqueous phase to avoid leaching tannins from the seeds. The wines of Domaine Yannick Amirault are aged in barrels for between 10 and 30 months depending on the vintage, then bottled at the estate. The wines of Domaine Yannick Amirault are of a very high quality level, with the cuvée "Les Malgagnes" in the Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil appellation, generous with an expression of Pinot Noir and an even more ample and delicate texture in the amphora-aged version, available at Vins et Millésimes. As with all single-varietal appellations, the wines of Domaine Yannick Amirault express each individual plot and lieu-dit. The cuvée "Les Quartiers", in the Bourgueil appellation, is ripe but still requires some ageing time to open up. The cuvée "La Petite Cave" offers a fine chalky tension with good ageing potential. Finally, the cuvée "Le Grand Clos" is the historic cru of the Bourgueil appellation.
