Domaine Beaurenard, based in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, has seen 7 generations succeed one another, preparing for the arrival of the eighth generation. The family discovered in a notarial deed from 1695 a mention of "Bois Renard" which over time became "Beaurenard"; Boisrenard has remained the name of the top-of-the-range cuvée. Today, brothers Daniel and Frédéric Coulon have taken over the estate and converted it to organic farming (Ecocert certification) and biodynamic practices (Demeter certification since 2011). This iconic estate of the southern Rhône Valley extends over 32 hectares of vineyards in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, 25 hectares in Rasteau, a cru of the Rhône Valley, and 6 hectares in Côtes-du-Rhône.

The Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation is world-renowned for its rounded galets — large smooth stones that absorb heat and release it into the soil, promoting the ripeness and concentration of the grapes. Domaine Beaurenard is one of the rare estates to cultivate all 13 grape varieties of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, even though it focuses on 4 varieties in red: Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault, which are sometimes complemented by Counoise, Muscardin, Terret Noir and Vaccarèse. For the whites, following a fairly traditional blend, Beaurenard's wines include Clairette, Roussanne, Bourboulenc, Grenache Blanc, Picardan and Picpoul.

Particular care is devoted to the vines, including herbal infusions to strengthen their natural defences. Beaurenard produces highly concentrated wines that always remain elegant and refined, with a certain minerality inherent to the Châteauneuf-du-Pape terroir, giving the wines a long ageing potential. Accustomed to tastings of old vintages to showcase this remarkable ageing potential, Domaine Beaurenard stands out with Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines from the 1950s and 1960s.

The Châteauneuf-du-Pape Beaurenard rouge cuvée is the estate's main cuvée, an elegant and relatively approachable wine, often featuring notes of garrigue, blueberry, cedar and fairly supple tannins. It can be enjoyed young or cellared, like the magnificent Beaurenard 2015. It is one of the best value-for-money wines in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation.

Among the vinified cuvées, one also finds Boisrenard Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge and Blanc, Gran Partita Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge, a Rasteau Rouge, Argiles Bleues Rasteau Rouge, a Côtes du Rhône Rouge and a rosé, as well as a Rasteau Vin Doux Naturel. Their Rasteau rouge is made from 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah, sourced from the finest hillsides of the appellation; this Beaurenard cuvée is all about concentration and suavity. In order to achieve such purity of wine, nearly 20% of the harvest is regularly set aside so that only the very best is selected. Extreme attention is paid to long and meticulous fermentations.

The Châteauneuf-du-Pape blanc 2001 is considered one of the finest whites from Domaine Beaurenard, with aromas of acacia blossom and ripe pear; the palate reveals itself powerful and full-bodied yet elegant, with a freshness and acidity that keep the senses on alert. In red, one can never forget the exceptional Châteauneuf-du-Pape Boisrenard 1998, sourced from vines aged 65 to 90 years and rivalling the famous 1990. This wine exalts the senses and continues to hold its peak, offering surprises thanks to a modern structure and a perfectly mastered oak ageing (20% new oak).
