Wines from Domaine Beaurenard: buy at the best price

Domaine Beaurenard, based in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, has seen 7 generations succeed one another, preparing for the arrival of the eighth generation. The family discovered in a notarial deed from 1695 a mention of "Bois Renard" which over time became "Beaurenard"; Boisrenard has remained the name of the top-of-the-range cuvée. Today, brothers Daniel and Frédéric Coulon have taken over the estate and converted it to organic farming (Ecocert certification) and biodynamic practices (Demeter certification since 2011). This iconic estate of the southern Rhône Valley extends over 32 hectares of vineyards in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, 25 hectares in Rasteau, a cru of the Rhône Valley, and 6 hectares in Côtes-du-Rhône.

The Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation is world-renowned for its rounded pebbles that absorb heat and diffuse it into the soil, promoting the maturity and concentration of the grapes. Domaine Beaurenard is one of the few to cultivate all 13 grape varieties of the Châteauneuf du Pape appellation, although it focuses on 4 red grape varieties: Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault, sometimes complemented by Counoise, Muscardin, Terret noir and Vaccarèse. For the whites, a fairly traditional blend, Beaurenard wines feature Clairette, Roussanne, Bourboulenc, Grenache blanc, Picardan and Picpoul.

Particular care is given to the vineyard with plant herbal teas notably to strengthen natural defenses. Beaurenard produces highly concentrated wines that are always elegant and refined, with a certain minerality characteristic of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape terroir, offering the wines remarkable aging potential. Accustomed to tastings of old vintages to showcase this incredible aging potential, Domaine Beaurenard distinguishes itself with Châteauneuf-du-Papes from the 1950s and 1960s.

The Châteauneuf du Pape Beaurenard red cuvée is the estate's main cuvée, it is a balanced and relatively accessible wine, often featuring notes of garrigue, blueberries, cedar and fairly supple tannins. It can be enjoyed young or aged, like the magnificent Beaurenard 2015. It is one of the best value-for-money wines in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation.

Among the vinified cuvées, you will also find Boisrenard Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red and White, Gran Partita Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red, a Rasteau Red, Argiles Bleues Rasteau Red, a Côtes du Rhône Red and a rosé, as well as a Rasteau Vin Doux Naturel. Their red Rasteau is composed of 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah, sourced from the finest hillsides of the appellation. This Beaurenard cuvée is all about concentration and smoothness. To offer such purity of wine, nearly 20% of the harvest is often set aside to select only the very best. Extreme attention is paid to long and meticulous fermentations.

The white Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2001 is considered one of the finest white wines from Domaine Beaurenard, with aromas of acacia flower and ripe pear. The palate reveals itself as powerful and full-bodied yet elegant, with a freshness and acidity that keep you alert. Among the reds, one can never forget the exceptional Châteauneuf-du-Pape Boisrenard 1998, produced from 65 to 90-year-old vines and rivaling the famous 1990. This wine exalts the senses and continues to maintain its peak and surprise, thanks to a modern structure and perfect mastery of barrel aging (20% new oak).
