Wine 1988 Bourgogne

The 1988 vintage asserts itself in Burgundy as a great classic and structured year, shaped by a healthy season that yielded ripe grapes endowed with fine acidity. The style bears its hallmark: firm, upright wines built for aging. The reds (Pinot Noir) reveal themselves to be deeply coloured, tannic and profound, sometimes austere in their youth but destined for great longevity, with superb expressions in the Côte de Nuits (Gevrey-Chambertin, Vosne-Romanée, Chambolle-Musigny, Morey-Saint-Denis). The whites (Chardonnay), more restrained, show themselves classic and taut, from Meursault to Puligny-Montrachet and Chablis. The aging potential of the reds is very high. Today, the finest have at last shed their framework and deliver a superb maturity. The most classic of the trio formed with 1989 and 1990, the 1988 remains a vintage of structure and longevity.
