Wine 1987 Bourgogne

The 1987 vintage paints Burgundy as a modest and difficult year, marked by rains as harvest approached that diluted a crop of limited potential. The reds (Pinot Noir) reflect this: often light and variable, they favour fruit and suppleness over concentration, with a few isolated successes in the Côte de Nuits. The whites (Chardonnay) are equally restrained, in a fresh and classic register, from Meursault to Chablis. The aging potential is low, and virtually all cuvées are ready to drink today, or even past their peak. Only the most rigorously selected wines have retained a little composure. Situated between the 1986, more successful in white, and the great and classic 1988, the 1987 remains a minor vintage, best reserved for lovers of curiosities.
