Wine 1985 Bourgogne

The 1985 vintage asserts itself in Burgundy as a great year, one of the most seductive of the decade, born of a warm, luminous summer following an extremely cold winter (January 1985) that had sorely tested the vineyards. The reds (Pinot Noir) are its flagship wines: ripe, charming and silky, with brilliant fruit and melted tannins, of rare elegance, with outstanding successes in the Côte de Nuits (Gevrey-Chambertin, Vosne-Romanée, Chambolle-Musigny, Morey-Saint-Denis). The whites (Chardonnay) are rich and ample, from Meursault to Puligny-Montrachet and Chablis. The aging potential was real, underpinned by the vintage's balance. Today, the great reds have reached a magnificent maturity, the finest still retaining excellent composure. Between the difficult 1984 and the rich 1986, the 1985 ranks among the finest red wine years of the 1980s.
