Wines from Domaine Gardiès: buy at the best price
Domaine Gardiès is one of the great references of contemporary Roussillon, a family estate rooted for seven generations on the rugged terroirs of Espira-de-l'Agly and Vingrau, in the Pyrénées-Orientales. The Castany family has been cultivating vines on these lands since the 18th century. It was Justin Castany who introduced at the beginning of the 20th century the region's flagship grape varieties: Grenache blanc, gris and noir, Carignan. His daughter Noëlle, trained in viticulture, inherited the estate, married Henri Gardiès and renamed the family mas "Domaine Gardiès". Jean Gardiès, an iconic figure of the Roussillon winemaking revival, took over the reins in the 1960s, expanding the estate to 30–35 hectares. His son Jean took over in the 1990s and completely abandoned chemical treatments in 2004, steering the estate toward biodynamics "well before it became a trend." Jean works today hand in hand with his son Victor. The wines of Gardiès, in a classic style universally respected, are aged in foudres and demi-muids, expressing two great terroirs: the black schists of Espira-de-l'Agly and the clay-limestone soils of Vingrau.
