Bandol holds a special place in the Provençal wine landscape, and for several reasons. This coastal appellation in the Var department benefits from an exceptional microclimate, bathed by the Mediterranean Sea and sheltered from cold winds by an amphitheater of hills. But it is above all Mourvèdre, the king grape variety of the appellation, that gives Bandol reds their unique character. With a regulatory minimum of 50% in the blend and a mandatory aging of 18 months in oak foudres, these wines develop complex aromas of garrigue, leather, black olive, and spices. Their tannic structure allows them to age gracefully for ten to twenty years, reaching a depth and elegance rarely matched in Provence.
