The Bollinger House

The House Bollinger was created in 1829. It is a "small" Champagne House (3 million bottles/year) compared to the leading brands of the LVMH group (Ruinart, Dom Pérignon, Veuve Clicquot, etc.) Located in the Montagne de Reims in Ay, it is one of the rare houses to own most of the vineyard used for the production of its Champagnes (few grape purchases), mainly in Premier Cru Champagne and Grand Cru Champagne. The blending of the cuvées is based mainly on Pinot Noir (2/3 on average), on barrel aging and a high proportion of reserve wines. The classic cuvées (Bollinger Special Cuvée, Bollinger Brut Rosé) are considered by enthusiasts as the best non-vintage on the market, along with those of Krug and Charles Heidsieck. These are vinous Champagnes that can accompany an entire meal while bringing elegance and fruitiness. The "Bollinger Grande Année" offer vintage Champagnes of rare purity, systematically praised by critics (Bollinger Grande Année 2000 - Robert Parker 93/100, Bollinger Grande Année 2002 - Robert Parker 94/100, RVF 18.5/20, Bollinger Grande Année 2004 - Robert Parker 93/100). As for the Bollinger R.D. cuvées (for Récemment Dégorgé - Recently Disgorged), marketed since 1967 at the instigation of Mrs. Bollinger, these are always composed of about twenty grands and premiers crus champenois. Relying on prolonged aging on lees to extract a more complex aromatic bouquet, the house only releases R.D. on vintages deemed exceptional.
