Founded in 1986 by Francis and Christophe DELORME, this flagship estate whose label emblem is a bird (the woodcock) is located in Tavel and has a vineyard of 54 ha spread across several appellations: Châteauneuf du Pape, Lirac, Côte du Rhône, Condrieu, Tavel. The Lirac appellation is the most prevalent on the estate (nearly 26 hectares), but the 5 hectares of Châteauneuf-du-Pape planted with Grenache (75%), Syrah, Mourvèdre, Counoise and Vaccarese for the remainder, have secured the estate's reputation, which in its early years was better known for its Tavel rosés.

The TOP winemakers of Rhône

The renowned critic Robert Parker awarded the Châteauneuf-du-Pape cuvée "La Reine des Bois" from the domaine des exceptional tasting notes approaching or sometimes reaching 100/100 (as with the 2001 vintage), and the domaine's reputation truly took a leap thanks to this perfect score. 

Following the taste of Robert Parker, the red wines of Châteauneuf-du-Pape from the domaine de la Mordorée are powerful and very expressive, sometimes accompanied by prominent oak aging. Christophe Delorme passed away at the end of 2015, and his wife and daughter have since taken over. The wine range is composed of the cuvées "La Dame Rousse" in the Lirac blanc and rouge appellation, and in the AOC Tavel; the domaine de la Mordorée also produces a cuvée "La Reine des Bois" in the same appellations as well as for Châteauneuf-du-Pape. It should be noted that in Châteauneuf, there is no "Dame Rousse" cuvée, but rather a "Dame Voyageuse" cuvée (lighter than the Reine des Bois, and composed of 90% Grenache). In exceptional vintages (such as 2003 and 2005), the domaine de la Mordorée produced a cuvée (in very limited quantities) that proved even more expressive: "La Plume du Peintre" — though this was more of a stylistic exercise intended to satisfy an audience in search of rare, exceptional cuvées. The estate's finest red wines are age-worthy, and it is advisable to wait at least 10 years in great vintages for the tannins and substance to settle somewhat, as Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines in their youth are of uncommon density and sometimes a little too expressive; yet this style of wine does find its audience. The price of the wines here is reasonable and offers good value for money.
