The 1950 vintage is a legendary vintage in France, marked by a hot, dry summer followed by a rainy September, producing abundant wines of great quality, especially in Bordeaux. In the Médoc, the reds are supple and full-bodied; in the Libournais, Pomerol and Saint-Émilion shine with richness (Château Cheval Blanc, Figeac, Lafleur, Margaux, Latour). In Graves, La Mission Haut-Brion excels, while in Sauternes, noble rot yields opulent nectars such as Yquem, Climens and Suduiraut. Burgundy delivers wines that are light and of moderate ageing potential; the Loire and the Rhône are serious, and Champagne, generous but uneven. A symbol of post-war renaissance, the 1950 vintage captivates with its quality.
