An historic estate located in Vosne Romanée in Bourgogne, whose origins date back to 1958, the Arnoux Lachaux estate first belonged to Charles Arnoux, then to his son Robert Arnoux, bearing his name for nearly 50 years. In 1995, his daughter Florence and her husband Pascal Lachaux succeeded him, and in 2011, their eldest son Charles joined them. The Arnoux Lachaux estate boasts a significant heritage of vines (14.5 ha), situated among the finest terroirs of the Cote de Nuits: Gevrey Chambertin, Chambolle Musigny, Vosne Romanée and Nuits Saint Georges.
The vineyard is managed according to the principles of biodynamics, and meticulous care is given to the work in the vines. The soils are ploughed with the help of a draught horse, the harvest is done by hand, and a rigorous sorting process is carried out to retain only the finest grapes. The estate has had a new vat room since 2005, where the draining process operates on the principle of gravity. The range of wines comprises 5 village cuvées (2 Vosne Romanée, 2 Nuits Saint Georges and 1 Chambolle Musigny), 5 Premier Crus in total: 3 in Vosne Romanée (Les Suchots, Aux Reignots, Les Chaumes) and 2 in Nuits Saint Georges (Clos des Corvées Pagets, Les Procès), and no fewer than 4 Arnoux Lachaux Grand Crus (Romanée Saint Vivant, Echezeaux, Clos Vougeot, and Latricières Chambertin). Being at the very heart of the famous Côte de Nuits, the Arnoux Lachaux estate produces only red wines. Often marked by whole-cluster harvesting, the wines are infused, rich in delicate textures drawn from plump grapes, and of great aromatic nobility. The Chambolle Musigny Arnoux Lachaux is refined and subtle. The Vosne Romanée Arnoux Lachaux is more powerful, yet finely chiselled. The Arnoux Lachaux Vosne Romanée 1er Cru Les Chaumes, with its delicate and spiced nose, has great depth; it is marked by a velvety and seductive sap. The Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru Les Procès, situated mid-slope above the village of Nuits-St-Georges, reflects the mineral character of the appellation, with an intense and authentic palate of fine tannins. The Echezeaux Arnoux Lachaux, positioned at the heart of the appellation in the lieu-dit Les Rouges du Bas, benefits from old vines of over 60 years, and comes across as spirited, combining the delicate softness of wild strawberry with a peppery touch. Finally, the celebrated Romanée Saint Vivant Arnoux Lachaux, the estate's emblematic grand cru, situated just 50 metres below the mythical Romanée Conti, offers a truly velvety carpet of tannins and a pure, nuanced fruit of phenomenal intensity. Unreservedly recommended — if you manage to acquire one of the rare bottles available on the market.
