The domaine De Montille, based in Volnay, today farms a vineyard of 22 hectares, consisting mainly of Premiers and Grands Crus on the Côte de Beaune, with a small portion in the Côte de Nuits, and produces around 8,000 cases across nearly 20 appellations. It took its name in 1863, while having to part with its finest plots of the time: Musigny, Bonne Mares and Chambolle Musigny Premier cru les Amoureuses. In 1947, Hubert de Montille's first harvest coincided with the decision to abandon selling wines to the Négoce. Since 1983, Etienne De Montille first worked alongside his father, and since 1995 he has gradually taken the reins of the estate (as well as those of the Château de Puligny Montrachet for white wines) and also created the Maison Deux Montille Sœur Frère (95% white wines).

Étienne de Montille is a committed biodynamic practitioner who vinifies reds and is able to produce great wines of pure terroir expression, less rigid than those of his father, and of a particular finesse, seeking simply to express the natural elegance of the great terroirs of Volnay and Pommard. To such an extent that some enthusiasts describe them as dazzling. There can sometimes be a hint of austerity in the young wines, but they generally evolve with grace. The great strength of the domaine lies in its ability to produce very great wines in both white and red. The most notable red wines are: Clos de Vougeot and Corton Clos du Roi among the Grands crus, Pommard 1ers crus (Grands Epenots, Pézerolles, Rugiens) and 5 Volnay 1ers crus (Brouillards, Carelle sous Chapelle, Champans, Mitans, Taillepieds). In whites: Corton Charlemagne, Meursault 1er cru les Perrières and Puligny Montrachet 1er cru les Caillerets. The wines of domaine De Montille are to be recommended to patient enthusiasts. The 2015 reds are excellent, with deep substance and great breeding. The whites are equally suited for ageing: such as the superb Premier cru Meursault Perrières or the impressive Corton Charlemagne, which will require 8 to 10 years of patience to deliver their best.
