De Montille Estate tooks its name in 1863 as it was obliged to let go its most beautiful plots in Musigny, Bonnes Mares and Chambolle Musigny 1er cru Les Amoureuses. Hubert De Montille's first vintage in 1947 coincided with the abandonment of their négociant wines. Etienne De Montille began working side-by-side with his father in 1983 and since 1995 progressively took over the Domaine De Montille, the whites burgundy of the Château de Puligny Montrachet and (re)created a negociant arm called Maison Deux Montille Sœur Frère, which produce 95% of whites wines.
Étienne de Montille is all-in for biodynamics, he is responsible for the reds burgundy of the Estate De Montille and knows how to make great wines that express their terroir, less rigid than his father’s style with a particular finesse, but always in search of the natural elegance of Volnay and Pommard which some amateurs describe as dazzling. While sometimes austere in youth they age with grace. The force of the Domaine De Montille resides in their talent for making fine wines in both red and white colours. Their notable reds are found in Clos Vougeot and Corton Clos du Roi Grands cru, their Pommard 1er crus are in "Grands Epenots", "Pézerolles", "Rugiens-Bas" and their 5 Volnay 1er crus are "Brouillards", "Carelle sous Chapelle", "Champans", "Mitans" and "Taillepieds". Their fine white wines include a Corton Charlemagne, Meursault 1er cru "Les Perrières" and Puligny Montrachet 1er cru "Les Caillerets". The wines of the Domaine De Montille are tailor-made for patient amateurs. The 2015 are excellent, distinguished and with depth. The white are also for laying down, such as the superb Premier cru Meursault "Les Perrières" or the impressive De Montille Corton Charlemagne, who both require 8 to 10 years of ageing to attain maturity. The wines of the Domaine de Montille are sought-after by amateurs and their prices reflect their status of Grands Vins.
