Located in Milly-Lamartine, at the heart of the Mâconnais, the Domaine des Héritiers du Comte Lafon was born in 1999 from the visionary intuition of Dominique Lafon. A celebrated master of Chardonnay at the Domaine des Comtes Lafon in Meursault, he was the first winemaker from the Côte d'Or to believe in the potential of the limestone hillsides of southern Burgundy. The vineyard now extends over approximately 26 hectares spread across three main areas, around Milly-Lamartine and Bussières, towards Chardonnay and Uchizy, and across Viré-Clessé, supplemented by recent acquisitions in Saint-Véran and Pouilly-Fuissé. Farmed organically and biodynamically since 2003, vinified parcel by parcel and aged in large foudres and demi-muids, it produces whites that are taut, sharp, crystalline and sapid.

History of the Estate

The domaine des Héritiers du Comte Lafon, located in the Mâconnais in Burgundy, was acquired in 1999 by Dominique Lafon, of the famous Domaine des Comtes Lafon in Meursault. Its history dates back to the late 19th century with the marriage of Jules Joseph Barthélémy Lafon and Marie Boch, a producer-négociant in Meursault. Since then, the estate has been passed down from generation to generation, until Dominique Lafon decided to acquire the domaine du Mâconnais in 1999, subsequently renaming it with its current name. Since 2006, Caroline Gon, and now Elsie Moore, have taken over the management of the vineyard, ensuring the maintenance and improvement of the quality of the wines produced. Approximately 150,000 bottles are produced each year, of impeccable quality!

Terroir, Vines and Vinification

The estate spans 26 hectares spread across different areas of the Mâconnais, including Milly-Lamartine, Bussières, the Clos du Four and Viré-Clessé. The vines have been cultivated according to the principles of organic and biodynamic farming since 2003. The vinifications are traditional and plot-by-plot, with minimal interventionism, and the wines are aged in demi-muids and foudres. This respect for the terroir and natural farming methods produces wines that are taut, sharp, straight, crystalline, sapid and refined, appreciated for their great ageing potential.

Main Cuvées and Appellations

Caroline Gon produces wines of consistent, and even growing, quality! Very fine balances, fruit maturity and minerality typical of the terroirs, an integrated and understated élevage, as well as a tasting experience appreciated from the earliest age of the wines but also a strong ageing potential! 

Among the estate's flagship cuvées, you will find:

Mâcon Milly-Lamartine: A lively, citrusy white wine, ideal for pairing with fish and seafood.

Mâcon Clos de la Crochette: A wine with a pale colour, featuring aromas of citrus fruits, butter and flowers, with a good acidity and a beautiful length on the palate.

Mâcon Uchizy Les Maranches: A fruity and floral wine, with a beautiful breadth on the palate, richness and a subtle minerality.

Mâcon Bussières – Le Monsard: A fruity cuvée with aromas of white-fleshed fruits and flowers, structured around an acidic backbone, with a persistent finish.

Viré-Clessé: A wine with a straw-yellow colour, featuring aromas of exotic fruits and flowers, balanced between roundness and mineral acidity, with a fresh and lively finish.

Pouilly-Fuissé: A mineral wine, marked by chalky and saline notes, with a strong ageing potential.

The domaine des Héritiers du Comte Lafon is acclaimed by wine critics, with a constant progression towards excellence. It represents one of the safest values in the Mâconnais, offering wines of remarkable quality and great expressiveness.
