A specialist in high-pedigree Pinot Noir, the estate offers rare wines that combine an imposing structure with remarkable aromatic finesse. Under the impetus of the Bouygues family (also owner of Château Montrose) and the Rebourseau family, the estate is entering a new era of excellence, placing biodynamics and plot-level precision at the centre of its philosophy.

History of Domaine Henri Rebourseau

The history of the estate is intimately linked to the rise of Burgundian viticulture in the 20th century. Founded by General Henri Rebourseau after the First World War, the estate was built from plots acquired as early as the 18th century. Henri Rebourseau was one of the pioneers of estate bottling and one of the founding members of the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin.

For decades, the estate cultivated a certain discretion, jealously preserving its old vines and its traditional know-how. In 2018, the entry of the Bouygues family into the capital enabled the acceleration of technical modernisation while respecting the historical heritage. Today, Jean de Surrel (Henri's grandson) and his sons watch over this legacy with renewed rigour, propelling the estate to the summit of the hierarchy of Burgundy's great wines.

Terroirs and Vineyards of Domaine Henri Rebourseau

The estate possesses one of the most impressive terroir portfolios in Gevrey-Chambertin, with a unique concentration of Grands Crus and Premiers Crus. The vineyard extends over nearly 13.5 hectares, the majority of which lies on Jurassic-era argilo-calcareous soils.

Vineyard management is now certified in organic and biodynamic farming. This cultural choice aims to strengthen soil life and plant resilience. By favouring controlled yields and respectful soil work (ploughing, cover cropping), the estate succeeds in extracting the mineral quintessence of each "Climat". The high average age of the vines yields grapes of exceptional phenolic concentration, a hallmark of great wines for ageing.

Winemaking at Domaine Henri Rebourseau

Winemaking at the estate is a quest for balance between the natural power of the Gevrey terroir and the elegance of Pinot Noir. After manual harvesting and rigorous sorting, the grapes are vinified in a modern yet tradition-respecting winery.

Gentle extraction: The estate favours cold pre-fermentation macerations and very moderate punch-downs to extract colour and aromas without hardening the tannins.

The art of ageing: The wines are aged in French oak barrels for 16 to 18 months. The proportion of new wood is judiciously adapted to each cuvée (often moderate) so as never to mask the expression of the fruit and the terroir.

Respecting the rhythm: Rackings are kept to a minimum and the wines are bottled in accordance with the lunar calendar, often without fining or excessive filtration, so as to preserve the integrity of the liquid.

The cuvées of Domaine Henri Rebourseau

Every purchase of a wine from Domaine Henri Rebourseau is a promise of a sensory journey to the heart of Burgundy's finest plots:

  • Gevrey-Chambertin "Aux Corvées": A village wine of great nobility, sourced from a plot located in the south of the appellation. It offers notes of crunchy red fruits and a silky structure, ideal for discovering the estate's style.
  • Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Fonteny": Located in the immediate vicinity of the Grands Crus, this terroir produces a wine of great density. It reveals aromas of black cherry and liquorice, along with a remarkable mineral tension.
  • Chambertin Grand Cru: The king of wines. Sourced from vines planted on very pure calcareous soil, this wine develops a phenomenal power and an aromatic complexity (undergrowth, gentle spices, faded rose) that intensifies with the years.
  • Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru: The estate's plot is located in the upper part of the Clos, near the château. It is a broad, generous wine, endowed with velvety tannins and a finish of infinite persistence.
  • Mazy-Chambertin Grand Cru: Often the most wild and expressive in its youth, it reveals smoky and animal notes that meld into a vibrant fruit after a few years in the cellar.
  • Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru: A wine of lace and elegance, favouring textural finesse and floral subtlety over raw power.
