History of Domaine Chantal Lescure

The estate, located in Nuits-Saint-Georges, was founded in 1975 by Chantal Lescure and Xavier Marchard de Gramont. It is a family property established on an 18-hectare vineyard, extending from the northern slopes of Dijon to the south of Meursault. In 1996, Chantal Lescure's sons, Aymeric and Thibault Machard de Gramont, took over the reins of the estate after their mother's death.

They then decided to rethink the operation, hiring François Chavériat as cellar master in 1996. He, between heritage and modernity, brought about a turning point in the estate. Under his direction, the vineyard adopted organic farming in 1997 and obtained organic certification in 2009. The estate, extending from the Côte de Nuits to the Côte de Beaune, is now appreciated for its fine and powerful wines. Aymeric Machard de Gramont, succeeding his mother, reorganized the operation to instill new dynamics, thus consolidating the estate's reputation.

Terroirs, Vines and Winemaking 

The Estate extends from Chambolle-Musigny in Côte de Nuits to Volnay in Côte de Beaune and occupies numerous plots in prestigious appellations: Vosne-Romanée, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Pommard, Beaune and Volnay.

Red wines, dense and structured, dominate since the vineyard includes 16.6 hectares of Pinot Noir for only 1.7 hectares of Chardonnay (and a very small amount of Pinot Gris). 

The vineyard is entirely cultivated using organic farming: it obtained certification in 2006. Deep respect for the life of soils, plants and the environment, with a simple philosophy: to produce authentic and pure wines, true to their terroir. The quest for optimal maturity is achieved through naturally controlled yields.

The aging of wines is rather traditional, in oak barrels lasting 16 to 20 months, with moderate use of new wood. Bottling is carried out without prior filtration during a favorable moon phase, inspired by biodynamic principles. 

Each year, the estate produces 19 cuvées from 35 plots, implementing gentle winemaking attentive to the specificities of each terroir. Aging is carried out on lees, in Burgundian barrels and 500-liter casks, with moderate use of new wood. Bottling, without filtration or fining, takes place at the estate.

The standout plots at the estate are the Nuits Saint Georges premiers crus Les Vallerots and Les Damodes, the Vosne Romanée 1er cru Les Suchots and the Clos de Vougeot for the northern part of the vineyard. In Côte de Beaune, the Beaune 1er cru Les Chouacheux and the Pommard premier cru Les Bertins are the flagships of this estate.
