Based in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Domaine Chantal Lescure has established itself over fifty years as one of the most reliable addresses in Burgundy for lovers of vibrant, pure wines built for ageing. Its eighteen to nineteen hectares stretch from Chambolle-Musigny in the Côte de Nuits to Meursault in the Côte de Beaune, spread across some thirty parcels and around twenty appellations, with two-thirds Pinot Noir and one-third Chardonnay. Certified organic since 2006, the domaine practices a parcel-by-parcel vinification that is deliberately low-interventionist.

History of the Chantal Lescure estate

The estate, located in Nuits-Saint-Georges, was founded in 1975 by Chantal Lescure and Xavier Marchard de Gramont. It is a family property established on an 18-hectare vineyard, stretching from the northern hillsides of Dijon down to the south of Meursault. In 1996, Chantal Lescure's sons, Aymeric and Thibault Machard de Gramont, took over the running of the estate following their mother's passing.

They then decided to rethink the estate, engaging François Chavériat as cellar master in 1996. He, balancing heritage and modernity, brought about a turning point for the house. Under his direction, the vineyard adopted agrobiology in 1997 and obtained organic certification in 2009. The estate, extending from the Côte de Nuits to the Côte de Beaune, is today appreciated for its refined and powerful wines. Aymeric Machard de Gramont, succeeding his mother, reorganised the estate to inject new momentum, thus consolidating the estate's reputation.

Terroirs, vines and winemaking 

The estate extends from Chambolle-Musigny in the Côte de Nuits to Volnay in the Côte de Beaune and encompasses numerous plots across prestigious appellations: Vosne-Romanée, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Pommard, Beaune and Volnay. 

The red wines, dense and structured, dominate, as the vineyard comprises 16.6 hectares of Pinot Noir and only 1.7 hectares of Chardonnay (and a very small amount of Pinot Gris). 

The vineyard is entirely farmed organically: it obtained certification in 2006. A deep respect for the life of the soils, the plants and the environment underpins a simple philosophy: to produce authentic, pure wines that are faithful to their terroir. The pursuit of optimal ripeness is achieved through naturally controlled yields.

The ageing of the wines is rather traditional, in oak barrels lasting 16 to 20 months, with a moderate use of new wood. Bottling is carried out without prior filtration on a favourable moon, drawing inspiration from biodynamic principles. 

Each year, the estate produces 19 cuvées from 35 plots, employing a gentle winemaking approach attentive to the specificities of each terroir. Ageing takes place on the lees, in Burgundy pieces and 500-litre barrels, with a moderate use of new wood. Bottling, without filtration or fining, takes place at the estate.

The stand-out plots at the estate are the Nuits-Saint-Georges premiers crus Les Vallerots and Les Damodes, the Vosne-Romanée 1er cru Les Suchots and the Clos de Vougeot for the northern part of the vineyard. In the Côte de Beaune, the Beaune 1er cru Les Chouacheux and the Pommard premier cru Les Bertins are the flagship wines of this estate.
