History of Domaine Clos du Rouge Gorge 

Founded by Cyril Fhal in the 2000s, Domaine Clos du Rouge Gorge quickly gained renown for its innovative approach and its commitment to the production of natural wines. Located in Languedoc Roussillon, the estate takes its name from the wild gorge that surrounds it, symbolising at once the natural beauty of the landscape and the authenticity of the wines it produces.

Since 2002, this passionate young winegrower has carried out numerous tasks on his own: a rigorous approach, high standards for the vine trained in biodynamics with extreme care and vinified with indigenous yeasts in demi-muids and large oak barrels… Cyril Fhal is a model of this new generation! 

Terroir, Vines and Winemaking

The terroir of Clos du Rouge Gorge plays an essential role in the distinctive quality of its wines. The vines, cultivated using organic and biodynamic farming, thrive on varied soils ranging from schist to sandstone, imparting a unique aromatic complexity to the wines. Cyril Fhal pays particular attention to preserving biodiversity, fostering a natural balance within the vineyard.

Winemaking at Clos du Rouge Gorge follows a minimalist approach, allowing the natural expression of the grape to come through. The grapes are harvested by hand at perfect ripeness, and vinification is carried out without the addition of yeasts or chemical inputs, allowing the wines to fully reflect the terroir. Ageing in large oak barrels or vats, depending on the cuvée, is likewise marked by minimal intervention.

The estate comprises 8 hectares, with a large proportion of old vines — three-quarters in reds — on the fine terroirs of schist, granitic arenas and gneiss of Latour-de-France. 

For red wines, the grape varieties are Grenache Noir, Carignan and Cinsault. 

For white wines, Grenache Gris, Macabeu and Carignan are planted. 

The Cuvées of Domaine Clos du Rouge Gorge

The estate offers a range of expressive cuvées, reflecting the diversity of the terroir and the artisanal approach of Cyril Fhal. Distinguished, of great natural refinement, far from any artifice, his artist's wines — alas difficult to find — are venerated by a loyal clientele. 

Among the flagship cuvées are fruit-laden red wines, whites of great freshness, and sometimes experimental cuvées exploring new facets of the terroir. Each bottle embodies the estate's commitment to authenticity and singularity.

In white or red, discover Côtes Catalanes cuvées — Jeunes Vignes or Vieilles Vignes, Ubac — and other cuvées as Vin de France!

The other flagship estates of Languedoc Roussillon and the finest vintages

Alongside Clos du Rouge Gorge, Languedoc Roussillon abounds with renowned estates, contributing to the viticultural richness of the region. Among them, one can cite Domaine Gauby, renowned for its biodynamic wines, domaine de la Grange des Pères, which combines tradition and modernity, as well as Domaine Peyre Rose, a pioneer of age-worthy wines in the region.

Languedoc Roussillon has produced exceptional vintages over the years. Among the most memorable, one can cite the years 2010, 2015 and 2018, characterised by favourable climatic conditions, yielding balanced and expressive wines. These vintages have contributed to strengthening the region's reputation as a source of quality wines.
