After gaining media attention in the late 1990s, Domaine du Clos des Fées has established itself as one of the greatest estates in Roussillon. Behind this estate set on the limestone cirque of Vingrau, we find the energetic Hervé Bizeul, formerly a sommelier and gastronomic critic. An atypical character who started making wine for his friends and elevated his Clos des Fées to the summit!

Lost in the garrigue wilderness, surrounded by dry stone walls, Hervé Bizeul and his wife Claudine craft the wines of Clos des Fées which are now adored worldwide for their freshness, amplitude and concentration. With nearly 30 hectares of vines in Côtes du Roussillon, Côtes du Roussillon Villages and Vin de Pays des Côtes Catalanes appellations on Vingrau, Tautavel, Maury, Calce, Lesquerde, Opoul and Espira, Clos des Fées stands out largely on the steep terraces and clay-limestone soils of Roussillon.

Dynamic and passionate, Hervé Bizeul develops several cuvées: Les Sorcières based on grenache and carignan with aging in tanks, Clos des Fées a blend of syrah, grenache, carignan and mourvèdre vinified and aged in wood, Vieilles Vignes, a vast blend aged in barrels, but also the very rare Petite Sibérie, a micro-selection from an old vine parcel that takes its name from the winter winds. Petite Sibérie comes from a unique parcel of old grenache noir vines whose terroir is exceptional in its diversity: clay-limestone, schists and red-blackish mica-schists, with high iron content. Not stopping there, Clos des Fées has been offering a grenache white for about ten years!

Its first vintage, the hot and dry 1998, conducted with new ideas and methods, allowed Roussillon to see the emergence of a different wine, which immediately seduced and showed a new path. Time and experience have tempered the wines of these pioneers, guiding them towards the search for balance and expression of Roussillon terroirs just like Domaine Gauby, one of Hervé Bizeul's references. This pragmatic winemaker acts with full consideration, marking minds with the 2011 vintage, which Roussillon calls the "vintage of the century": exceptional quality, abundance, concentration, finesse, a dream year that the Clos des Fées estate was able to master!
