History of Domaine Clos du Rouge Gorge 

Founded by Cyril Fhal in the 2000s, Domaine Clos du Rouge Gorge quickly gained renown for its innovative approach and commitment to producing natural wines. Located in the Languedoc Roussillon, the estate takes its name from the wild gorge that surrounds it, symbolizing both the natural beauty of the landscape and the authenticity of the wines it produces.

Since 2002, this passionate young winemaker has carried out numerous works alone: rigorous approach, demanding requirements towards the vine cultivated in biodynamics with extreme care and vinified with indigenous yeasts in demi-muids and foudre... Cyril Fhal is a model of this new generation! 

Terroir, Vineyards and Vinification

The terroir of Clos du Rouge Gorge plays an essential role in the distinctive quality of its wines. The vines, cultivated using organic and biodynamic agriculture, flourish on varied soils, ranging from schist to sandstone, giving the wines a unique aromatic complexity. Cyril Fhal pays particular attention to preserving biodiversity, promoting a natural balance in the vineyard.

Vinifications at Clos du Rouge Gorge follow a minimalist approach, giving way to the natural expression of the grape. The grapes are harvested by hand at perfect maturity, and vinification, carried out without added yeasts or chemical inputs, allows the wines to fully reflect the terroir. Aging in foudres or vats, depending on the cuvées, is also marked by minimal intervention.

The estate consists of 8 hectares, with a large proportion of old vines, three-quarters in red, on the beautiful terroirs of schist, granitic arenas and gneiss of Latour-de-France. 

In red, we find the grape varieties Grenache Noir, Carignan, Cinsault. 

In white, Grenache Gris, Macabeu and Carignan are planted. 

The Cuvées of Domaine Clos du Rouge Gorge

The estate offers a range of expressive cuvées, reflecting the diversity of the terroir and the artisanal approach of Cyril Fhal. Distinguished, of great natural refinement, far from any artifice, his artist's wines, unfortunately difficult to find, are venerated by a loyal clientele. 

Among the emblematic cuvées are red wines bursting with fruit, whites of great freshness, and sometimes experimental cuvées exploring new facets of the terroir. Each bottle embodies the estate's commitment to authenticity and singularity.

The other flagship estates of Languedoc Roussillon and the best vintages

Alongside Clos du Rouge Gorge, Languedoc Roussillon is full of renowned estates, contributing to the viticultural richness of the region. Among them, we can mention Domaine Gauby, renowned for its biodynamic wines, Domaine de la Grange des Pères, which combines tradition and modernity, as well as Domaine Peyre Rose, pioneer of aging wines in the region.

Languedoc Roussillon has produced exceptional vintages over the years. Among the most memorable, we can mention the years 2010, 2015 and 2018, characterized by favorable climatic conditions, offering balanced and expressive wines. These vintages have contributed to strengthening the region's reputation as a source of quality wines.
