Domaines Ott in Provence represents the excellence of Provençal wine, combining tradition, innovation and a deep respect for terroir. Founded by Marcel Ott in 1896, Domaines Ott today comprises three distinct properties: Château de Selle, Clos Mireille and Château Romassan. Each estate has its own identity, reflecting the diversity and richness of Provence’s terroirs.

History of the Estates

Château de Selle

Château de Selle, the first of the Domaines Ott properties, was acquired by Marcel Ott in 1912. Located in the commune of Taradeau, near Draguignan, the estate was originally a former hunting lodge. Marcel Ott undertook the lengthy task of restoring the land and vineyards, transforming the property into a prestigious wine estate. Today, Château de Selle is known for its elegant, refined wines, chiefly its high-quality rosés.

Clos Mireille

Clos Mireille, purchased in 1936, is located near the Mediterranean Sea in La Londe-les-Maures. The estate enjoys a unique microclimate thanks to its proximity to the sea, which moderates temperatures and brings a welcome sea breeze. Its schist soils, rare in Provence, lend a distinctive minerality to Clos Mireille’s wines, especially the whites and rosés.

Château Romassan

Château Romassan, the Ott family’s last acquisition in 1956, is located in Bandol, one of Provence’s most prestigious appellations. Marcel Ott and his descendants replanted the vineyards and restored the estate’s historic buildings. Château Romassan is renowned for its structured, powerful red wines and sophisticated rosés.

Vines, Terroir and Winemaking

Château de Selle

The vineyards of Château de Selle are planted on stony clay-limestone soils that provide excellent drainage and mineral diversity, enriching the wines. The main grape varieties include Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines are made with meticulous care, combining traditional methods with modern techniques to ensure their purity and quality.

Clos Mireille

The vineyards of Clos Mireille stretch across schist and clay soils, offering a unique combination of minerality and freshness. The main grape varieties are Sémillon, Rolle (Vermentino) and Grenache. Winemaking here emphasizes a pure expression of the terroir, with slow fermentations and aging on the lees to add complexity and depth to the wines.

Château Romassan

Château Romassan benefits from clay-limestone soils and stony terraces ideal for growing Mourvèdre, Bandol’s emblematic grape variety, as well as Grenache and Cinsault. Winemaking focuses on gentle extraction and aging the reds in oak barrels, allowing them to develop structure and complex aromas over the years. The rosés are made to preserve their freshness and intense fruit character.

The Cuvées of Domaines Ott

Château de Selle Côte de Provence Rosé: An emblematic, fresh and elegant rosé, with red-fruit and floral aromas and lovely minerality. Its subtle balance of structure and finesse, and its vibrancy, reflect the estate’s limestone hills, arid soil and exceptional sunshine! 

Château de Selle Côte de Provence Rouge: An ode to fruit, showcasing Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon at their best! Arid conditions and limestone and clay soils mixed with gravel and stones result in low yields and wines brimming with red-fruit flavors (blueberry, cherry, blackcurrant) that evolve toward notes of chocolate and spice. 

The estate also produces BY OTT rosé, white and red cuvées in the new winery at Château de Selle, where tanks are dedicated exclusively to them. 

Clos Mireille Côtes de Provence Rosé: A bright personality shaped by its proximity to the Mediterranean, expressed through a blend of grape varieties typical of the Côtes de Provence appellation. Predominantly Grenache for its fruit and richness, with Cinsault for suppleness and Syrah for fruity roundness. Fresh fruit on the nose (melon, mango), lemon notes and citrus aromas, with lovely minerality. 

Clos Mireille Côtes de Provence Blanc: Sémillon and Rolle come together beautifully in this ample cuvée, whose saline character comes from its limestone-free schist terroir. Sémillon lends structure and richness, while aromatic Rolle brings balance and complexity. Aging in large oak casks rounds out this wine, which has excellent aging potential. Aromas of ripe and exotic fruit are crowned by floral notes. Freshness and acidity on the palate lead to notes of honey and a crisp finish. 

Château Romassan Bandol Rosé: A magnificent Bandol blend. Mourvèdre brings strength, structure and aging potential; Grenache adds depth, Cinsault suppleness, and a small proportion of Syrah fruity roundness. A fine Bandol terroir with arid soils of limestone, sandstone and sandy marl, and a sunny, particularly dry climate. Citrus and white-flower aromas on the nose precede a lively first sip, with notes of pink grapefruit, fleshy fruit and fruit tarts, followed by a long, very pleasant finish. Enjoy it as an aperitif or with a meal! 

Château Romassan Bandol Rouge: A magnificent Bandol red! The vines are trained as bush vines or on individual stakes, allowing for natural shade. Low yields produce precise, balanced wines with depth, concentration and silky tannins.
