Wines from Domaine Bott-Geyl: buy at the best price

Located in Beblenheim, at the heart of the Perles du Vignoble in the Alsace wine region between Ribeauvillé and Kientzheim, Domaine Bott-Geyl is a discreet yet essential reference for great Alsatian wines. Heir to a family tradition dating back to the late 18th century, it has been run since 1993 by Jean-Christophe Bott, a passionate winemaker who was named Winemaker of the Year as early as 1996. Spread across some fifteen hectares divided into numerous plots, the estate has been farmed organically since 2000 and biodynamically since 2002, certified Biodyvin. Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer and Pinot Noir express with purity the richness of Grands Crus, lieux-dits and a historic Clos.

History of Domaine Bott-Geyl

The history of Domaine Bott-Geyl has its roots in a long winemaking tradition, dating back to the late 18th century, when ancestor Jean-Martin Geyl was tilling his vines and making his wine in Beblenheim. The estate as we know it today was born from the union, in 1927, of two longstanding winemaking families, the Botts and the Geyls. It was then under the impetus of Edouard Bott that the property took off from 1953 onwards, growing from four hectares to around fifteen today.

In 1993, his son Jean-Christophe Bott took the reins with a clear vision: to work with low yields, vinify in a natural and minimalist way, and carry out gentle, lengthy ageing to faithfully transcribe the identity of the vines and soils. Recognised as Winemaker of the Year in 1996, he converted the estate to organic farming in 2000, then to biodynamics in 2002, becoming a member of Biodyvin. Working discreetly, without seeking media attention, he has established himself with both the press and enthusiasts for his pure, straightforward and unadorned wines.

Terroirs and Vines of Domaine Bott-Geyl

The Domaine Bott-Geyl vineyard extends over some fifteen hectares divided into a great many plots scattered across several communes, from Ribeauvillé to Kientzheim, within the central sector of the Perles du Vignoble. This patchwork of plots offers an extraordinary geological diversity: granitic, limestone, marly and Oligocene pebble soils stand side by side, imparting a broad palette of flavours and characters to the wines.

The estate owns plots on several iconic Grands Crus (Sonnenglanz, Schoenenbourg, Sporen, Mandelberg, Furstentum and Wineck-Schlossberg), as well as characterful lieu-dits and a historic Clos. Each plot is monitored individually to preserve its natural balance and reveal its expressive potential. Biodynamic viticulture, with natural preparations, respect for lunar cycles and the complete absence of chemical products, accompanies voluntarily moderate yields and fully manual harvesting — a guarantee of rigorous grape selection.

Winemaking at Domaine Bott-Geyl

In the cellar, the philosophy remains minimalist and respectful of the grape. Pressing is gentle and progressive, and the juices flow by gravity into the tanks, without recourse to harsh pumping. Alcoholic fermentation is initiated solely by indigenous yeasts: long and slow, it imparts complexity and intensity to the wines. The juices are neither enzymed, nor chaptalized, nor fined.

After fermentation, the wines are racked and then patiently aged on fine lees, in vessels adapted to each cuvée, in order to impart depth and energy. This approach, which brings together tradition and modernity, yields full-bodied and suave wines of great richness, always well controlled: even the sweetest cuvées bear no heaviness, combining power, length and a sense of fullness. Aromatic clarity, purity and excellent ageing potential are the hallmarks of the estate.

The cuvées of Domaine Bott-Geyl

The Crémant d'Alsace: a sparkling wine crafted in the great Alsatian tradition, fresh and delicate, which opens the estate's range with finesse and indulgence.

Points Cardinaux Métiss: an accessible and convivial cuvée, a blend of Pinot Blanc, Pinot Auxerrois, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. A balanced and thirst-quenching wine of pleasure, a fine gateway into the world of the estate.

The Les Éléments range: a varietal-by-varietal interpretation offering an introduction to the estate's biodynamic expertise, with the Riesling Les Éléments, straight and mineral, the Pinot Gris Les Éléments, round and aromatic, and the Gewurztraminer Les Éléments, expressive and spicy. Pure wines, true to their grape variety.

The Pinot Noir Galets Oligocène: an Alsatian interpretation of Pinot Noir on the estate's Oligocene pebble soils, of remarkable suppleness, playing between red fruits, roasted notes and gentle spices. A refined red wine that does not deny its origins.

The lieu-dits: single-plot cuvées with more direct expressions yet always underpinned by a precise acidic framework, including the Riesling Grafenreben and other lieu-dits from the historic Clos and the finest plots, which highlight the singularity of each soil.

The Grands Crus: the flagship wines of the estate, they express Riesling, Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer across the prestigious terroirs of Sonnenglanz, Schoenenbourg, Sporen, Mandelberg, Furstentum and Wineck-Schlossberg. Structured, deep and persistent wines of remarkable complexity and fine ageing potential.

The Jules Geyl cuvée: a tribute cuvée to the founding ancestor, crafted with particular care, embodying the estate's attachment to its family history and to the excellence of its terroirs.

The Vendanges Tardives and Sélections de Grains Nobles: luscious nectars produced from overripe grapes, crafted during the greatest vintages. Rich and concentrated yet always balanced, without the slightest heaviness, they crown the diversity of the estate's terroirs and bear witness to Jean-Christophe Bott's mastery in the art of the great sweet wines of Alsace.
