History of Domaine Pierre Girardin

The history of Domaine Pierre Girardin is one of a passion transmitted from generation to generation. Pierre-Vincent, son of the famous winemaker Vincent Girardin, grew up among the vines, learning from a very young age the secrets of viticulture and vinification. At only 15 years old, he chose to follow in his father's footsteps, working on the initial 2 hectares of the family vineyard. In 2011, Vincent Girardin sold his estate, but kept 4.5 hectares of prestigious parcels to pass on to his son, thus ensuring the continuity of the family heritage.

In 2016, Pierre-Vincent founded his own estate in Meursault, and in 2017, at the age of 19, he signed his first vintage, which met with immediate success. This young prodigy, strengthened by his travels around the world and his tastings in the greatest estates, brings an innovative approach to vinification while respecting Burgundian traditions. Supported by the relationships established by his father with winemakers sharing his meticulous philosophy, Pierre-Vincent complements his vineyard with high-quality grapes from long-term contracts. Today, his estate is recognized as a rising star, producing wines that rival those of the greatest names in Burgundy.

Terroirs and Vineyards of Domaine Pierre Girardin

Domaine Pierre Girardin extends over 4.8 hectares of vines, spread across some of the most prestigious appellations of the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits, such as Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, Pommard, Corton, Vosne-Romanée, and even the mythical Montrachet. Pierre-Vincent aims to expand his vineyard to 10 hectares within two years, while converting all his parcels to organic agriculture within five years, with sensitivity to biodynamic practices. In addition, he recently acquired 6.2 hectares in Jura, cultivating Chardonnay and Savagnin on unique terroirs such as Rotalier and Grusse.

The Burgundian vineyard consists of 40% Chardonnay and 60% Pinot Noir, grown on clay-limestone soils that give the wines their minerality and complexity. Each parcel is worked with care to preserve biodiversity and express the identity of the climats. Pierre-Vincent favors respectful practices, avoiding brutal interventions such as intensive trimming or excessive leaf removal. In Jura, his 4.2 hectares of lieu-dits, such as "Le Noyer" or "Les Abeilles", are vinified separately to reveal their unique character, although the wines are declassified as Vin de France, as they are vinified in Meursault.

Vinifications at Domaine Pierre Girardin

Pierre-Vincent Girardin's vinification philosophy is based on precision, purity and respect for terroir. Located in Meursault, his ultramodern winery, equipped with rigorous temperature and humidity control, produces wines of impeccable quality. The grapes, whether from the estate's vines or carefully selected partners, are harvested at perfect maturity to capture the essence of the terroirs.

For white wines, Pierre-Vincent uses 456-liter barrels, specially designed by the François Frères cooperage, to limit the influence of new wood. This approach guarantees crystalline Chardonnays, with marked minerality and perfect balance. The white wines are aged 12 months in barrels, then blended in tanks for 3 to 6 months before bottling, carried out according to the lunar calendar. Minimal use of sulfur and the absence of bâtonnage preserve the freshness and purity of the aromas.

The red wines, made from Pinot Noir, favor elegance and silkiness. A long and gentle press, without punching down, allows delicate infusion of the berries, avoiding any excessive extraction. The red wines are aged 12 to 15 months in 225-liter barrels, with 30 to 50% new wood depending on the cuvées, then bottled without filtration or fining, to preserve their fruitiness and velvety texture. This minimalist approach highlights the richness of the terroirs, offering sapid and harmonious red wines.

The Cuvées of Domaine Pierre Girardin

Domaine Pierre Girardin offers an exceptional range of cuvées, reflecting the diversity and quality of the terroirs worked. Here is an overview of the main cuvées:

Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru

From parcels in Pernand-Vergelesses and Ladoix, this Grand Cru Chardonnay reveals notes of candied lemon, white flowers and toasted sesame. Its ample and concentrated structure, with beautiful mineral tension, makes it an exceptional aging wine (Wine Advocate score: 94 for 2017).

Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru

From 85-year-old vines on the Chassagne-Montrachet side, this white wine offers textural richness and aromas of ripe fruits, balanced by vibrant acidity. A grand cru of rare elegance (Wine Advocate score: 92-94 for 2018).

Chambertin Grand Cru

This exceptional Pinot Noir, produced in limited quantities, seduces with its depth and silky tannins, with notes of red fruits and sweet spices (Wine Advocate score: 92-94 for 2018).

Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières

A precise Chardonnay, with aromas of white fruits and hazelnut, carried by limestone minerality. Its roundness and freshness make it an ideal wine to accompany refined dishes.

Meursault Les Casse-Têtes

From a discreet climat with stony soils, this white wine stands out for its nervousness and aromas of honeysuckle and hot stone. Its confidential production makes it a prized rarity.

Pommard 1er Cru Les Epenots

This Pinot Noir combines elegance and power, with notes of black cherry and a velvety texture. A red wine that fully expresses the typicity of Pommard.

Volnay Clos des Chênes

A delicate red with fine tannins, offering aromas of red fruits and a silky finish, perfect for lovers of refined Pinot Noir.

Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières

This rare and coveted village white wine rivals the cuvées of Lalou Bize-Leroy. It seduces with its purity and mineral finesse.

Bourgogne Éclat de Calcaire

An accessible cuvée, but of great accuracy, which reflects Pierre-Vincent's signature style: precision and freshness.

In Jura, cuvées such as "Le Noyer" (Chardonnay and Savagnin) and "Les Abeilles" offer a Burgundian interpretation of Jura terroirs, with remarkable freshness and concentration.
