Based in Pommard, at the heart of the prestigious Côte de Beaune in Burgundy, Domaine Vaudoisey-Creusefond is a family estate that cultivates with discretion and humility approximately 9 hectares of vines across the villages of Auxey-Duresses, Meursault, Volnay and Pommard. Grown using integrated pest management in accordance with numerous organic and even biodynamic principles, these Chardonnay, Aligoté and Pinot Noir vines give rise to naturally vinified cuvées, recognised by discerning enthusiasts for their great purity, aromatic finesse and excellent value for money across some of the most sought-after appellations of the Côte de Beaune.
Domaine Vaudoisey-Creusefond is a family estate deeply rooted in Burgundian winemaking tradition for several generations. Located at 16 route d'Autun in Pommard, halfway between the celebrated communes of Pommard and Volnay, the estate takes its name from the union of two local winegrowing families, the Vaudoiseys and the Creusefonds, who together founded this fine property on the Côte de Beaune. The family and artisanal character of the estate has always been preserved, set apart from the large négociant houses of the region.
Today, the estate is run by Alexandre Vaudoisey and his sister Laure, representing the new generation, alongside their parents Sylvie and Henri Vaudoisey. This close-knit family team passionately perpetuates the winemaking tradition passed down from generation to generation, while progressively integrating more environmentally respectful practices, including biodynamic certification for certain recent cuvées. Annual production amounts to approximately 40,000 bottles, sold directly at the estate and exported to around a dozen countries, including Switzerland, Belgium, Germany, Japan, the United States and Canada. Wine lovers appreciate the legendary humility of the house, which offers wines of a quality often praised by critics at prices that remain very accessible.
The vineyard of Domaine Vaudoisey-Creusefond extends over approximately 9 hectares spread across four emblematic communes of the Côte de Beaune: Pommard, which forms the historic heart of the estate and is home to village plots as well as the Premier Cru Les Charmots, Volnay (with a blend of plots located in the south-east of the commune), Auxey-Duresses (Village and 1er Cru Climat du Val, fully south-facing on the northern heights of the village), and Meursault (notably the lieu-dit Sous le Chemin and the climat des Blanches on the border with Volnay).
The soils are typically clay-limestone, conducive to the expression of both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The estate also cultivates a plot of Aligoté for its regional white wine. Vineyard management follows a demanding reasoned viticulture, with fully grassed-over soils to limit vigour and yields, and careful ploughing beneath the vines. No herbicides or insecticides are used; treatments are carried out exclusively with products approved for organic farming. Biodiversity is actively encouraged through the presence of flowers, bushes and fruit trees (particularly cherry trees) in and around the plots. The harvest is entirely manual, a guarantee of optimal quality for the grapes entering the winery.
In the cellar, which extends beneath the house and the adjoining street, Domaine Vaudoisey-Creusefond applies a minimalist winemaking approach faithful to Burgundian traditions. For the whites, the harvest is not destemmed and is pressed directly, followed by cooling to 12°C and then static settling within 48 hours. The wine is transferred to barrel at the start of alcoholic fermentation using the indigenous yeasts naturally present on the grapes, without any additives, followed by malolactic fermentation in barrel. Ageing on the lees in barrel lasts 12 months, with a carefully measured proportion of new oak (10 to 35% depending on the cuvée). Sulphites are kept at a low level (below 50 mg/L total).
For the reds, following a manual harvest, the grapes are partially destemmed and undergo a cold pre-fermentation maceration at 10–12°C for 3 days, which gently extracts primary aromas and colour. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in wooden vats or traditional tanks, exclusively with indigenous yeasts and without any additives. Malolactic fermentation then occurs in barrel. Ageing continues on the lees in barrel, with a maximum of 10 to 25% new oak, for 12 to 18 months depending on the cuvée. This artisanal precision, combined with a genuine commitment in the vineyard, gives rise to pure, elegant, indulgent wines built for ageing.
The Bourgogne Aligoté is the estate's entry-level white wine. A fresh and thirst-quenching wine, marked by aromas of citrus, white flowers and green apple, with a lively palate and an elegant saline finish, ideal as an aperitif or with seafood.
The Auxey-Duresses Blanc is a finely crafted village Chardonnay, sourced from south-facing plots in Petit Auxey. A fruity, well-balanced palate endowed with an airy minerality and precise freshness. The wine expresses notes of ripe white fruits, mirabelle plum and discreet yellow flowers, with a long and precise finish.
The Auxey-Duresses 1er Cru Climat du Val Blanc comes from a plot located to the north of the village, on the upper slope with a full south-facing exposure on clay-limestone soil. A Chardonnay aged in barrels (35% new) for 12 months on the lees, with a pale golden yellow colour, a fine and elegant nose with notes of toast, vanilla, almond, mirabelle and grey pepper.
The Meursault Sous le Chemin comes from the eponymous lieu-dit located to the south, in the Meursault plain, sometimes blended with the climat des Blanches on the border with Volnay. A well-balanced Chardonnay with a fresh, precise and mineral palate, with notes of white fruits, citrus and a beautiful length on the finish.
The Bourgogne Rouge is a convivial Pinot Noir, perfect for drinking on its own. A fruity and supple wine, marked by aromas of cherry and raspberry, with a indulgent palate and fine tannins, perfect for everyday cooking.
The Auxey-Duresses Rouge is an elegant, structured and approachable village Pinot Noir. The wine offers a fruity nose of raspberry and cherry, a well-balanced palate with a slight spice, supported by fine tannins and an indulgent finish.
The Auxey-Duresses 1er Cru Climat du Val Rouge is one of the estate's flagship cuvées. A Pinot Noir from the Premier Cru du Val, partially destemmed, vinified with cold pre-fermentation maceration and aged in barrel for 12 months with 15% new oak. Ruby in colour, with a fruity, elegant and generous nose of raspberry jam, crushed blackberry, plum, spices and flowers. A thoroughbred, suave, ample and finely tannic palate, considered an outstanding value for money.
The Volnay Village is a blend of plots located in the south-east of the commune. A feminine and refined Pinot Noir, true to the dancing elegance of the appellation. The wine reveals itself particularly well with a few years of ageing, becoming superb between 5 and 10 years, in the pure tradition of age-worthy Volnays.
The Pommard Village is a full-bodied and deep Pinot Noir, marked by aromas of black fruits, ripe cherry, gentle spices and liquorice. A powerful, structured palate with firm tannins that require a few years of ageing to fully blossom.
The Pommard La Croix Blanche is a single-plot village cuvée of great distinction, sourced from a privileged lieu-dit within the appellation. A Pinot Noir of remarkable finesse and breed, which holds its own without hesitation against many Pommard Premiers Crus, in an elegant and deep register.
The Pommard 1er Cru Les Charmots is the estate's flagship red wine. Sourced from this renowned Premier Cru, it offers a tender and appealing colour, refined aromas of an affable Pinot Noir (cherry, flowers, subtle spices, a light hint of fur), and a fleshy, ripe palate with a delicacy that sometimes recalls the finesse of a Volnay or a Chambolle, with great ageing potential.
