Rémy Pédréno is an exacting winemaker who, after a brief stint at the Rostaing estate, created the Roc d'Anglade estate in the Gard in 1999, and decided to produce country wines there. The 10 ha of vines are planted on clay-siliceous soils over calcareous marls. Facing due north, they impart great freshness to the Roc d'Anglade wines, in the purest respect of the fruit. Production is in fact very limited. Roc d'Anglade applies the rules of organic farming and its wines are AB certified.

The TOP winemakers of Rhône

Like many wines, within the IGP Pays du Gard appellation the winemaker is thus freed from the constraints of appellation regulations. It is above all the terroir and the personality of the winemaker that are conveyed through the red wines, rosé wines and white wines of Domaine Roc d'Anglade, which rank among the most sought-after in Languedoc. The Roc d'Anglade wines are characterised by great tension, extreme finesse, a great deal of freshness, undeniable elegance, and significant ageing potential. The Roc d'Anglade, Vin de Pays du Gard, comes from a stony terroir of clay-silica-limestone. In red, it is made from a blend of carignan, syrah and grenache. Its nose is subtly oaked and very fruity, with notes of blackberry, blackcurrant and wild cherry. On the palate, this Languedoc red from Roc d'Anglade proves very indulgent and also displays fine tannins. It therefore shows a very strong personality. Made from 70% chenin, the Languedoc white Roc d'Anglade is flavoursome and delicate, with notes of acacia and white fruits, and is particularly prized by restaurateurs and sommeliers. It can be considered one of the finest white wines from southern France. The Languedoc rosé generally offers a nose of mandarin and a lighter structure. The Reserva Especial Roc d'Anglade cuvée corresponds to a blend of several vintages with the aim of "rejuvenating an old wine with a newborn wine, and educating the innocent with the refined wine". It is a wine intended to evoke that produced by the Vega Sicilia estate in the Ribera del Duero in Spain, which combines certain of its vintages to create a wholly singular cuvée. This great, unconventional wine will delight lovers of full-bodied, complex yet refined wines. The Roc d'Anglade Reserva Especial cuvée is long and linear, with a fine framework of very delicate tannins and an underlying red fruit, all underscored by a beautiful ripe acidity. A wine destined to age for many years. The use of large oak casks for élevage has notably advanced the quality of the wines at Domaine Roc d'Anglade, and one eagerly awaits the next luminous creative ideas from Rémy Pedreno.
