Domaine Josmeyer covers 28 hectares of vines across a number of very fine plots, including highly renowned Grand Crus such as Grand Cru Brand and Grand Cru Hengst. In total, the Josmeyer vineyard is divided among approximately 28% Riesling, 24% Pinot Blanc, 21% Pinot Gris, and 19% Gewurztraminer, with the remaining 8% in Sylvaner, Muscat and Pinot Noir. The vineyard has always been managed in a reasoned manner and with respect for nature, and since 2004 all Josmeyer wines have been certified with the AB (organic farming) label, as well as in biodynamics. The 5^th generation, represented by Céline and Isabelle Meyer, has succeeded their father, Jean Meyer, since 2016. The wines of Domaine Josmeyer are renowned for their finesse, and fermentation takes place largely in century-old large wooden vats with capacities ranging from 1,000 to 6,000 litres. The wines are aged on fine lees, and their stabilisation occurs naturally during the winter season. After bottling, the wines are sometimes cellared for several years, so that enthusiasts may enjoy them in their youth or after several years of ageing. The Josmeyer Riesling Grand Cru Brand comes from a very small plot at Josmeyer, with vines over 40 years old. The granitic terroir of Grand Cru Brand lends great finesse and precision to the Riesling, which is truly one of those great grape varieties capable of conveying with great precision the subtle nuances of great terroirs. The Riesling Grand Cru Brand is a white Alsace wine of very great purity and great complexity. Still young in the 2017 vintage, it is driven by a sharp acidity, though tempered by a low residual sugar. One will appreciate this pure expression of the terroir, with no oak influence. Of great tension and great minerality with a long finish, this very harmonious Brand will continue to blossom over at least 5 to 7 more years. Also among the Grand Crus, the Riesling Hengst Somain 2014 is spicy and restrained, accompanied by noble and fine bitterness that brings relief and good vivacity. This Grand Cru Hengst impresses with its tension, elegance and aromatic purity, making it a true table companion for the finest seafood: sea bass, turbot, monkfish, or shellfish such as lobster and spiny lobster.
