A treasure of natural viticulture in Tuscany
The Soldera estate is an essential reference in the world of great Italian wines. Located in Montalcino, in Tuscany, this estate is the fruit of the ambitious dream of Gianfranco Soldera and his wife Graziella, who, since the 1970s, have worked tirelessly to create one of the greatest natural wines in the world. Through an absolute respect for nature, traditional winemaking, and a perpetual pursuit of excellence, the Soldera estate is today recognized both in Italy and internationally for its wines of exceptional quality.

Gianfranco Soldera, born in Treviso in 1937, spent his childhood in Milan before venturing into the business world. In the 1960s, he founded one of the first insurance brokerage companies in Italy, which he led successfully until 2003. But a passion for the land and for wine, passed down from generation to generation, led him to embark on a new adventure alongside his wife Graziella, a passionate botanist.
The couple set out in search of land suited to the creation of a great Fine Wine. After an arduous search, it was in June 1972 that they discovered Case Basse, a magnificent place that had been left abandoned at the time. In August of the same year, they purchased the estate and undertook the planting of their first Sangiovese vines. As early as 1975, their first harvest exceeded all their expectations. In 1982, they released their first Brunello di Montalcino, marking the beginning of the estate's international renown.
Despite the passing of Gianfranco in 2019, the Soldera family continues its work with the same commitment to excellence and natural viticulture. Today, under the leadership of Graziella Soldera and their children, Monica, Paolo, Mauro and Valeria, the estate continues to shine on the world wine scene.
The Soldera estate covers approximately 23 hectares, of which only 10 are dedicated to vines. The terroir is of inestimable richness, composed of soils of Eocene origin and situated at an altitude of 320 metres. Oriented south-west, this terroir benefits from a unique microclimate, favoured by exceptional biodiversity. This combination of geographical and environmental factors is ideal for the cultivation of Sangiovese, the estate's emblematic grape variety.
The distinctiveness of viticulture at Soldera lies in an absolute respect for nature and a meticulous management of the ecosystem. At the Soldera estate, no chemical products are used. The soils are fertilised exclusively with organic matter, and the vines are worked entirely by hand. This approach, known as natural viticulture, is based on the idea that the quality of the grapes depends on the health and diversity of the surrounding ecosystem. To this end, fruit trees, berry bushes and beehives have been established on the estate to encourage biodiversity and attract pollinators and birds.
The winemaking process at Soldera is marked by a deep respect for tradition while incorporating modern scientific advances. The harvest is carried out by hand, and the bunches are carefully selected first in the vineyard, then in the cellar. Only perfectly healthy and ripe grapes are destemmed and sorted, berry by berry, in order to guarantee the quality of the wine.
Fermentation is entirely natural, taking place in large Slavonian oak vats, without the addition of artificial yeasts. This process is monitored continuously through rigorous scientific analyses, as well as frequent tastings. No fining or filtration is carried out, and the wine is aged in large oak casks for several years.
The estate uses exclusively the Sangiovese grape variety, the symbol of the Montalcino region, and all the grapes come exclusively from Soldera's own vineyards. This approach guarantees the integrity and authenticity of the wines, which are renowned for their finesse, aromatic complexity and long ageing potential.
The Soldera estate produces several iconic cuvées, each bearing the hallmark of the quality and commitment of the Soldera family to natural viticulture.
Soldera Case Basse Toscana IGT 100% Sangiovese
Since 2013, the cellar has labelled its wines under the Toscana IGT/IGP appellation. This wine is made from 100% Sangiovese, meticulously selected to express the full richness and subtlety of the Case Basse terroir.
Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Soldera
It was in 1982 that the first cuvée of Brunello di Montalcino was released by the estate, with the 1977 vintage. This wine quickly gained international recognition for its exceptional quality. Although the estate ceased producing Brunello after the 2006 vintage, this cuvée remains a timeless classic of the house.
Soldera Pegasos IGT
The "Pegasos" is a unique cuvée, born from the exceptional climatic conditions of 2005. This wine, aged for approximately three years, is bottled under the Toscana IGT appellation and takes its name from the winged horse, the estate's symbol.
Soldera Intistieti
Produced between 1985 and 1992, the Intistieti is a 100% Sangiovese table wine, characterised by a shorter ageing period in barrel. Its label, adorned with the winged horse drawn by renowned artists, embodies the creativity and elegance of the estate.
Rosso di Montalcino DOC Soldera
The Rosso di Montalcino is another iconic cuvée, produced with the same care as the Brunello but with a shorter ageing period. It offers a more accessible approach to Soldera's wines while maintaining exceptional quality.
The Soldera estate embodies excellence in the art of natural viticulture. Thanks to an exceptional terroir, traditional winemaking methods and a constant commitment to innovation and research, the wines produced here are among the finest in the world. The passion and vision of Gianfranco Soldera, passed on to his family, continue to guide the production of these remarkable wines, which are today distributed in more than 40 countries. For any wine lover in search of an authentic and unique experience, the Soldera estate is an unmissable reference.
