Sylvain Dittière established his domaine La Porte Saint Jean south of Saumur, in the Loire in 2010. Not yet 30 years old, this winegrower had already accumulated remarkable viticultural experience: Domaine de L'Ecu (Loire), Domaine Marc Tempé (Alsace), Domaine Gauby (Roussillon), Château Yvonne et Thierry Germain (Loire) in Saumur/Saumur Champigny, as well as Le Clos Rougeard. Sylvain is in fact very close to the legendary Clos Rougeard, as his wife Pauline is none other than the daughter of Françoise and Charly Foucault, and therefore the sister of Antoine Foucault, who himself heads the Domaine du Collier. In 2010, La Porte Saint Jean comprised 3 hectares on lease along with purchased grapes. From 2011 onwards, Sylvain Dittière purchased his first plot, and today La Porte Saint Jean encompasses 8.5 ha of its own — a meteoric rise to prominence among the great names of the Loire.

His exceptional work has already been praised by international critics such as the Revue des Vins de France since 2017. Sylvain Dittière has forged a solid reputation and is already among the greatest Loire winemakers with his few vintages: 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. Extremely demanding and a follower of the philosophy of living wines, Sylvain pays very special attention to his vines where he works all his parcels organically, even though he has not yet certified La Porte Saint Jean. In the cellar, very little intervention, as little as possible, he listens to the needs of his wines, carefully follows their cycle and accompanies them to offer finesse, charm and expression. All this gives us pure, deep and precise wines.

This Loire estate produces 3 white Loire wines: La Perlée (in Saumur or Vin de France), Les Pouches, made from Chenin, and Saut Mignon, made from Sauvignon blanc. La Porte de Saint Jean also produces a red Saumur, a cuvée with great aging potential: Les Cormiers from approximately 60-year-old Cabernet Franc vines and a fourth eponymous cuvée: La Porte Saint Jean in Saumur Champigny appellation, a red Loire wine that is fresher and more delicate than Les Cormiers. An original feature at La Perle Saint Jean, Sylvain Dittière produces the Six Roses cuvée, a natural sparkling Loire rosé (which has nothing to envy of great champagnes) with an incredible presence made primarily from Chenin and a little Cabernet Franc. This ultra-confidential cuvée from La Perle Saint Jean (1000 bottles/year) undergoes maceration in rose petals from the family rose garden. You didn't know what dessert wine to serve?
