Wine 2020 Bourgogne

The 2020 vintage closes in Burgundy a trio of solar years with a harvest of historic precocity, as early as mid-August. A mild winter, an early bud break, and a hot, dry summer marked by drought produced small, thick-skinned berries full of substance. The reds (Pinot Noir) prove to be concentrated, deep, and structured, with a surprising freshness given the heat, destined for fine aging, with brilliance in the Côte de Nuits (Gevrey-Chambertin, Vosne-Romanée, Chambolle-Musigny, Morey-Saint-Denis). The whites (Chardonnay) are ripe and concentrated, generally balanced and fresh in the best cases, from Meursault to Puligny-Montrachet and Chablis. The aging potential is significant, especially for the reds. At the end of the 2018, 2019, and 2020 sequence, the 2020 combines solar intensity and tension, and still requires time.
